Riceburner Posted January 29, 2016 Author Posted January 29, 2016 Another mod another change required. I've had few peddles in the Ricey with the new 3.1 engine sorted. I like a little noise, it sounds big at idle but not too bad, at full noise it's epic. I love it but I'm not sure anyone else will inside or in the surrounding areas, so I think it could be a little on the loud side Can't upload video as I'm locked out of my youtube account. I run stainless headers 6-2 42.7mm primaries twin 60mm secondaries, full 3" mandrel system, magnaflow 5" round 14" long stainless centre resonator and a reinhard twin 60mm stainless rear muffler. All mufflers are full stainless with stainless steel wool fill and perforated stainless steel cores. It was good on the old engine, not to loud at all. Could the bump in compression from 9.3:1 up to 10.5:1 and displacement increase from almost 2.9 to 3.1 mean a lot more noise? I was really happy with the way the 5" round magnaflow centre muffler made the old engine sound. Is it possible to fit an oval muffler in the centre, say 14Lx9Wx4D under the rear gearbox area and will that solve the noise issue? Quote
C.A.R. Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 What Length was the old 5" OD Magnaflow in the centre? A 12" or 14" Magnaflow in the centre may reduce it somewhat more, but I suspect that rear muffler of your's is the culprit. I build the 3" LCR systems with 14" long rear muffler & a 12" long, 5" centre round. They have a nice burble without being loud. Just think about your noise requirements at P.I.... Quote
Riceburner Posted January 29, 2016 Author Posted January 29, 2016 Lurchos, I just took some measurements. The centre magnaflow is 14" long, 5" round, straight 3" in/out. The JDM style rear is 14" long, 7.8"(200mm) long, twin 60mm straight in/out, 5" long angled tips. Quote
C.A.R. Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Hrmmm...I'd put $ on the rear muffler being the issue. Quote
EJ101 Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Thats it, the Gonzo units use a continuos gaint type "screw" rather than the short segments of the Moroso. He makes to order. Operates out of a shop called "Aussie Auto and Mechanical" in Pickering st Enoggera, Qld. He will post Not heard if anyone else in Aus is making them, or similar. DiFilippo exhaust in Melbourne do something similar. Not sure about the auger screw arrangement. Saw it on a car show on TVS/Ch44 a couple of years ago. Might have been Gasoline. Anyway, they use them on V8 supercars. Flow without the dB's. Quote
Riceburner Posted January 30, 2016 Author Posted January 30, 2016 Ok, I'll look into those as well. What about this, it's another 4" longer but also 7" round instead of 5"? Only issue I can see would possibly be ground clearance. Does anyone know what the 3 chambers are? Quote

I noticed on Green Hornet that a Borla front muffler was used. How come Magnaflow wasn't used? Was a Borla used at the back as well? So straight thru muffler front and back? Quote
