They are just a different shape on the ends and doesn't go all the way up to the inner lip like the original one does. You can extend it if you like but the rubber hides the gap anyway. Keep your old one after you drill out all the spot weld because you can use it as a guide to drill out the new one for plug welds or if you have a strong enough spot welder for the same purpose.
