Hi guys...I have finally found an L28 for a rebuild however it comes from a Nissan Patrol, all I know is that it is an L28 which  has N42 stamped on it, am I right in thinking that this will be fine to recon and go straight into the Zed? It's sometimes frustrating being an engine newbie....but I'm learning slowly....very slowly! appreciate all the great help you guys give.

It should be fine, I've been told that the patrol's sump is slightly larger than the zeds, don't know whether this is a problem or not. If it is, you can just swap the sump over anyways.

I would have thought the internals would be of a different configeration. Like the cam etc? I don't know much but I would have thought a Patrol motor was built for a different purpose than the Zed motor. Even though it is the same capacity I would have thought it might be different internally. But I am only guessing.

possibly setup for more torque ? Would need a little more torque to punt a patrol around would have thought.. I might keep an eye out for a patrol L6 .

There exactly the same internally - just different ancillaries.

I had a Patrol L28 in my Zed when I bought it.

I'm not sure about the sump configuration though.

Yeh, more torque from the gearing (transmission).
