bluerat Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I've just Built one out of a old fire extinguisher, 2.5kg, and mounted it next to the drivers side headlight. We also looked at using a length of 2 inch Alum pipe mounted in front of the radiator, I didn't do the sum's but maybe the full width of the car or...my mate has his mounted under the front guard, in the wheel well. luvemfast Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Grab a 4 litre olive oil tin Ummmmm....... No. Not on this build! I've also got a 5L aluminium box in the passenger wheel well, which is cool. However, when I blew an engine at sandown some oil made its way to my rear passenger tyre and I spit like I was on ice. If you've relocated the battery, use that location for a nice Ally box. Quote
dat2kman Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Some rule about a container being a certain volume for under 2litre engine, and certain volume for over 2litre engine. For over 2litre, it is only 3 litre oil catch can required,,, ? Yes, the common kitchen olive oil can, zip tied, with the engine crankcase breather, and rocker cover breather, hoses, fed into it, but have a third hole to allow the air to escape, a bit of sponge foam loosely racetaped over the third hole, is an idea. Do not use a plastic Coke or juice bottle, hot oil can melt them. Best not to place it in the cabin, in an accident situation, you do not want hot liquids near yo, or added potential for fire risk. Grandad Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 Grab a 4 litre olive oil tin They work great - used one for almost 10 yrs Ummmmm....... No. Not on this build! Thanks for the feedback guys. We've used a plastic oil bottle secured with cable ties for the last ten years with no problems at all but it has now been consigned to history and won't be going back on. It's looking like we might be stuck with having one custom made when I know exactly how much space we have available under bonnet with everything refitted. Cheers Dad Quote
Scoota G Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Perhaps if you had the bracket for the carbon canister and then got one of the catch cans in the following link (2 Litres) Would that suit your purposes. They are a similar size. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/130837356563?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_444wt_770 Quote
