620Z Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 This is an interesting or should I say informative "how to instal ZG flares". I know a few people on this site want to put them on. So here is the step by step intstructions. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=113064 Hope they don't mind that I stole it. :-) Quote
sco_aus Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 This has already been posted, but at least its easy to find now. cheers Im giving this to my panel beater when he does it, just to make it a bit easier for him. Just need money now Quote
fufu Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Hi was wondering if anyone tried that flares install kit offered over in the HybridZ group buy section for installing these flares? Any reviews? As i'm thinking about purchasing a set for myself. Quote
mikedoeslife Posted November 3, 2007 Posted November 3, 2007 Aaaah yes, Austin Hoke. This guy's fantastic. I'd pay him to build an S30 for me, haha. Edit: Holy crap, he's putting a VQ in his S30? I wonder if that's a first! Quote
zedevan Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 nah there's pics of a 240z with a vq in it along with the 350z dash and what looks to b an s2000 front with the bonnet modified to open the normal way... i looked into buying one of the kits from him, but there really is no need to as its all stuff easily sourced locally, all up costs about $20 for all the screws/rivet nuts (nutserts) from memory, and the rubber is about $30 as clark rubber likes to charge $5-10 a metre depending which one you go for. there's a guy with a tig welder in nunawading sulio and myself used to cut the guards, was $250 from memory, i'm thinking of taking my car back there to get them cut up higher (as he cut them quite low thinking it was high enough, which it is on my car as it aint as low as sulio's, but hopefully this will change sometime ) and getting rid of the side indicators and antenna hole Quote
fufu Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Legend Zedevan, yea i backed out of the purchase he was charging me about $100 with shipping and then if i got that nutsert tool from pegasus would have been another $38. Price starts getting questionable. Quote
yellazed Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 I bought a set from Austin Hoke and they cost me about $85 landed. Has all the fasteners and piping needed to fit the flares. He seems like a great guy and very helpful. It suited me 'cos I work away interstate and seldom have the time to go searching for individual nuts and bolts, etc., let alone know where to get nutserts. For the nutsert tool, I just e-mailed the supplier, info@pegasusautoracing.com (cost approx $10) to see if they'd mail it instead of UPS, so it would land a bit cheaper (they want about $35 shipping thru UPS!) I'm sorry I didn't ask Austin to get one and throw it in. Anyway, if anyone's like me and just want to order a kit thru Austin, he's happy to supply: Quote: I shipped your kit out this morning (Thursday) and it should arrive in 6-10 business days. The customs code is CJ270094725US. I've actually sold 3 or 4 kits to Aussie since i've been doing this. If you would like to, its fine with me to post about the kits on that forum. Just make sure to provide a link to the original post on hybridz, and make sure to tell them i have a good rep haha. If you don't mind, if you make the post can you include the following information: Email at hokeperformance@gmail.com to check availability. Shipping Options: -Kit with priority mail flat rate shipping (includes NO insurance) 75 USD -Kit with priority mail international shipping (includes insurance) 88USD Thanks a lot man. Good luck with the flares and the wheels! Austin The link has been posted by Craig at the beginning of this thread, but here it is again http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=113064 Cheers, Wal F Quote
240hoke Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Hello, I'm sorry if there has been any miscommunication/misunderstandings about price on the ZG Kits. Like Yellazed said, my prices for shipping to Aussie are: 1 Kit+ shipping (NO INSURANCE)=75 USD 1 Kit+ shipping (WITH INSURANCE)=88 USD Also, i didn't realize that the shipping for the nutsert tool was so pricey, i actually just ordered some of them, and from now on, anyone in Australia (or any other country besides the US), will get the option of purchasing a nutsert tool with their kit for 9.50 extra, which is the price of the tool from Pegasus. The kit includes the welting, and all the hardware to install the flares, with the option of a nutsert tool. The kit does NOT include the flares. I just ordered some more supplies for the kits, and should have another set ready to go in 1-2 weeks (shipping to me will be delayed due to a holiday this week). I try to keep the kits in stock as much as possible. For any questions about the kit, availability, or any other questions, please don't hesitate to email me at hokeperformance@gmail.com . I check this a lot more often than i do PM's, because its easier for me to keep track of it through there. Here is the website to my car, www.vq240z.com i hope you like it! Thanks, Austin Hoke Quote
yellazed Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Austin: Great post. I'm sure that's cleared up a few things. Thanks for your offer to include the special tool in future kits. That will be a great feature. Thanks also for the link. A formiddable task, but what a neat conversion idea and what a great job you are making of it. I've saved the link in my 'favourites' so I can check in now and again to watch the progress. That's gonna be one sweet and unique Z! Cheers, Quote
Toecutter Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 That sounds fair enough to me. The guy puts his time into it and you know your getting the right parts for the job so no risk, and delivered to your door. I would have bought the kit if I was'nt in such a rush when I put my flares on. Sulio Quote
sco_aus Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Can someone answer me this question asap. Its an excellent guide, but im confused as at one point, Austin says DO NOT CUT ALL THE WAY THROUGH when cutting the outer guard on the rear, what does that mean? am i not cutting the metal all the way, or am i not cutting through the inner guard or is there something i dont know about? I need to know asap cos thje car goes in for a tune on tuesday and the tassie trip is only a couple of weeks away and i need to ge these on so i can fit my bigger wheels cos i sold the 16's to Lurch. 620Z Posted January 17, 2008 Author Posted January 17, 2008 Go Scott I love these people who don't mind the stress of a tight deadline. There are a couple of others in the same boat in there preperation. Too stressful for me. I imagine Sulio or Lurch should be able to help you with this question. Quote
sco_aus Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 i hate the stress, but love to drive my car the welding part is gonna be bad for me, i have never welded and im stuggling to find somone who knows how to or has the equipment to mig/tig weld. Im gonna hit up the guy who welded my suspension who knows his shit, but whether he has the time or not Quote
Toecutter Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Scott, I think what he means is that it's a good idea to cut the first skin a little higher than the second inner skin and then bend the inner one out to potrude by a bit to form a flat and not a sharp weld. I hope you get what I mean, if not advise and I will do a sketch and post later tonight?? Sulio Quote
Zeddophile Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 You can actually make up a tool to install rivnuts or nutserts by using a piece of flat metal, 2 nuts, and a bolt (all of which must obviously be the same thread as your rivnut. I'll have to look at one to remember how exactly to work it (can't quite visualize where the nut fits in off the top of my head), and then if anyone is interested I'll explain. Quote
