Retro Z Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Hi Guys. Wondering if anyone can tell me what this item is. Its a little square box screwed directly to the sheet metal just in front of the coil and behind the fresh air duct on the passenger side tub/bay It has a plug that looks almost identical to the TPS plug on my efi intake with 3 wires. I recently unplugged it and one of the pins snapped off as it was corroded, so i need to replace it with another or something similar. Is it some kind of ignition module? My car is not going yet so i cannot test to see. The engine is a L28et from a us spec late 280zxt (p90a/f54) with microtech Lt-8 ecu Was previously installed and running in a early 260z 2+2. Now in a late 240z. Any help would be appreciated. Quote

Moderators Zedman240® Posted September 5, 2013 Moderators Posted September 5, 2013 I'd say it is a transistor of some sort; looks like that bracket is a heatsink as well. Check on the HybridZ site for more info if they have any. Quote

Six_Shooter Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Have you looked in the FSM yet? The markings would be consistent with a coil igniter. Quote
Retro Z Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 Thanks for the help unfortunately i don't have the FSM. i only have a 240z L24 specific fsm. Can you elaborate on where i may be able to find a replacement? I haven't been able to find anything similar on N/A 280zx's that are wrecking (parting out). Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted September 5, 2013 Administrators Posted September 5, 2013 Definitely looks like the ignition module I had on my wait for it... 'Mitsubishi' distributor. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=935.0 But it looks different, I have heard you can fit an ignitor module (another Bosch Module) to a Z distributor (seem to remember it was a Ford). Perhaps someone hooked that up as a modification when they couldn't find a ZX module? Do you have an electronic distributor? Quote
pauly_adams Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 http://www.xenons130.com/reference.html there is a link to the manual Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted September 5, 2013 Administrators Posted September 5, 2013 If I had to take a serious guess I'd say it's part of the 280ZX optical distributor set up found on the turbo models. Quote
Retro Z Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 Hi guys thanks for all the help. I have managed to find out what it is after a few hours of scouring the net. Its a universal Tridon ignition module used for nissan/subaru/toyota. I was googling the whole number and brand (as pictured) previously to no avail but i found it under TIM036. Just ordered it so hopefully my car should run once installed. thanks again guys. Tai. Quote
