zeds4ever Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 If VL Turbo fuel injctrs are fitted in place of stndrd injctrs on a 280Z injctn set up, will the ECU have to be changed to VL specs to run Turbo injctrs. Will be using a XF Falcon Throttle body set up in conjunction. Regards: Alan. Quote
pauly_adams Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 if you are using those injectors on a NA engine you will need to drop the fuel pressure done (not the best idea) or change the ecu, there is 100cc difference in fuel delivery between the 2, on the other hand if you have a modified L28 then you may be able to get away with it Quote
zeds4ever Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 G'day Pauly, thanks for your reply mate. Only Mods to motor is bored to 60Thou o/sze, mild cam ,extrctrs, 2 1/4 exhst, genie mflr. If this is not ok, is there another set of f/injctrs like Skyline etc that existing ECU would cope with & give a bit better prfrmnce thru the ranges. Regards: Alan. Quote
luvemfast Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Gordon Dobbie used to use Mercedes V8 injectors. But that was a long time ago, when there wasn't much available. In saying that though, I'm sure you can get some from the wreckers pretty cheap to try out. Quote
dat2kman Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Why do you think you need the much higher flowing VL Commo Turbo injectors? The atmo VL commo injectors flow a lot less, and would be better fitment in a warmed L28. The stock ECU may be able to be used. Definately fit a better quality than the stock fuel pressure reg, ie an adjustable Malpasi, that way, by fitting the slightly larger injectors, you can then run it up on a rolling road dyno, and using a decent O2 sensor up exhaust, get your air/fuels as close as pissible. The XF Falcon TB is a good idea. On the rolling road, you will get a bit of a stumble around 4200 rpm, that is just the nature of the L series engine on airflow in and out. The stock L28 injectors flow 188 cc. Quote
pauly_adams Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 ^^^ what he said , stock vl injectors (non turbo) will work fine, even with your ecu they are around 200cc from memory they may even be the same as 280zx ones. for what engine mods you have they will be fine, my car was 60 thou over bore, light ported head cam and extractors and mine ran fine with stock injectors Quote
zeds4ever Posted August 24, 2013 Author Posted August 24, 2013 Thanks Fella's for your input, will heed the advice. Regards: Alan. Quote
nizm0zed Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 http://users.erols.com/srweiss/tableifc.htm more info than you'll know what to do with. Quote
zeds4ever Posted August 24, 2013 Author Posted August 24, 2013 Thanks for the info Alan but I don't work at NASA But I will admit there is a hell of a lot of info there. LOL. Regards: Alan. Quote
nizm0zed Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Thanks for the info Alan but I don't work at Nasser. But I will admit there is a hell of a lot of info there. LOL. I think maybe you mean NASA? not nasser? Is there another set of f/injctrs like Skyline etc that existing ECU would cope with & give a bit better prfrmnce thru the ranges. So, that big fat list will have the part number off the injector from the 280zx It'll also have the specs of the injector, eg flow rate ect. Then you can look in the list for an injector with a slightly higher flow rate, eg 15-20% maybe? and then the list will give you the part number and car that its from, allowing you to do a simple google search to track them down. But i can see how that would be hard for 'simple' people. For the real smart cookies, you can use some basic maths to estimate what your fuel requirements will be based on expected power output, then size up some suitable injectors running at around 70% max duty cycle at full power, giving you a good overall fuel delivery capability. zeds4ever Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 Thanks Nizmo I'm "simple" enough to understand that & smart enough to work out the rest .But It's hard when you get to over 70yrs old to comprehend some things ,even worse when there,s a lot. LOL. Regards: Alan. Quote
Paulo Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Hey Alan, Hope all is well up at Winmalee and the fires - my mate has lost his house just up the road from you, so let me know if you require any assistance. Quote
zeds4ever Posted November 8, 2013 Author Posted November 8, 2013 G'day Paul, everything's fine thanks mate. But we had a few anxious moments when the fire were being belted along by 100 plus klmtr winds. The choppers did a fantastic job containing them when they got into it. Missus was panicking something fierce about the house as was I about my beloved Zed. Thanks for your kind offer & thoughts mate. Regards: Alan. Quote
