dat2kman Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Just a little query, Camshaft figures of 80 -50 ,50 - 80, total duration of 310 deg, duration at 50 thou is 246 deg Lift at valve 0.597 In Nismo parlance this is pretty up there for a SOHC engine, not for road use, obviously! Who has played up around these numbers PeterMc will have been around this, your thoughts? Quote
NZeder Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 I think Tony D on hybridz.org might have played with a large cam like that on the saltlake car.....nothing below 3000rpm. Quote
d3c0y Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 It depends a lot what it has been ground on as to whether it will be any good at that lift. From what I have been told , these big lift cams generally have issues with the lobes being soft. I would love one that spec for my engine, but the issue above and the fact it will wear the guides pretty hard has deterred me. Quote
Xnke Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I have a 308* cam with opening/closing numbers close to yours, duration at fifty is slightly less at 242*, lift is 0.588" The cam was cut on a Japan hex-lug core a long time back, and I don't have a manufacturer, nor any kind of marking on the cam at all. it shows very little wear on it, but I don't have the brass ones to chuck it in the Z and drive it in traffic. I've REALLY thought about it, though, but for now it's greased and wrapped up in the box my Isky custom cut came in, till I figure out what to do with it. I have thought about sending it in and getting it profiled just in case, but haven't done it yet. Quote
260DET Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 0.597" valve lift is huge, compared with the JWT high lift S2 cams I got for the VG33ET anyway. They give 0.473". Quote
Riceburner Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Here's the spec sheet I got with my wade 76 high lift. I don't know what any of the numbers mean Haha. IIRC Pete MC said the lift is more like 580? Something to do with the way they measure them. Quote
dat2kman Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 Just wondering if anyone has run a big bugger! In a six cylinder! And what results. I've been running one of these in a four cylinder engine, head is FIA Datsun option jobbie. No good under 3500 though! Intake valves are largish at 50mm diam. Carbs are 50 mm. No issues on lobe or rockers, but geometry is FIA, not L series setup, must be slight differences. Quote
peter mc Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 its not a good race cam at 50 is way short , slow at 50 just means It will rpm but wont make power , the 654a has 264 at 50 and has 550 lift and 314 deg , power come in at 4000 and goes to 7500 on a 2.8, on 3.4 and 3.2 power is from 3800 to 7500 . we have a new cam that runs 620lift and 315deg 274 at 50 , this cam needs 12.5 comp and cubes power from 4 to 8500 Quote
d3c0y Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 So my motor wont run that cam with 11:1? How hard is that thing on the guides? Quote
dat2kman Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 I'm making 245 hp at 7700 and 191 ft/lb at 6000 Capacity a bit over 2 litre, four cylinder, on a Heenan/Froude old type engine dyno ( same as Moorabbin?) On a hp/torque per cylinder basis, that cam compared to a few others tried, gave best results. U20 engined car. The red one. Quote
peter mc Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 hey dat2kman the only way you will get more is with a turbo lol your at the top end now , cams will not make much more now Quote
d3c0y Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Mine is 355hp at 7400 and 298 ft/lbs from memory at 5200rpm thats with the wade 76 high lift above. 106hp/L on pump 98 3.35L six cylinder on a superflow engine dyno Jason that means your is doing 122.5hp/L how much over 2.0L is it exactly?? Quote
