decided to give the old datsun a rise and shine and bring it out from being dead. put fresh fuel into the tank and turned the key..... engine ticks over but no ignition..... =(

so opened up the carbs and cant find any fuel... looked at the floats dry as a whistle...

was wondering if the fuel has evaporated in the rails and what the best way to unblock them would be?

or if the fuel filter or pump has gone.. yet the pump is still making noises..

any ideas??

cheers

1. Check the old fuel hasn't turned into a gelatinous goop & blocked the pump & lines up.

2. Disconnect the outlet line from the pump & check that it is actually pumping fresh fuel.

Get your self a can of start you bastard or airostart and spray it in to the air filter . Mine takes a bit to get the fuel up to off I leave it to long

Is it mech or elec pump? If mech, just keep cranking. Or start-ya-bastard (which will only run for a few sec, maybe/maybe-not enough time for fuel to get pumped), or poor fuel into bowls and that will let it run a while.

Must be electric if you can hear noises.... best to drain 6 month old fuel as it will smell pretty bad and the engine may not run at all with it. Remove a fuel line from the fuel rail and confirm that fuel is being pumped. If its an original 260 pump, they do not self prime; you will have to remove it and fill it yourself with fuel them re assemble it and it should be ok. Easier way is to pressurise the tank with compressed air and force fuel to go through the pump then try starting.
