freshin_j Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 As the heading suggests. Are all L28s the same used in other models such as the patrols. New to Datsun and was looking for help before I purchase the wrong engine. Quote
zzzzed Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Are they all the same? No Do they all interchange between different models eg patrol to 240z. Yes they do. There are different designed heads as well as engine blocks. Ill let some one else fill in the finer detailed because I am lazy Quote
dat2kman Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Oil pickup in bottom of block can be different, front sumped, rear sumped. Some have different casting numbers ie N42 F54. Some heads had round exh pirts (rare) most have rectangular. Quote
NZeder Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 There is at least 2 different types of N42 blocks, and I have see 4 different casing number of n42 heads from early to late (even one with an extra...not sure how you would describe it....casting/flat and round area at the rear of the late N42 head for what looked to be an installation point for temp sensor or thermal pop valve or something) The early N42 blocks are hard to find and easy to identify they are said to have a higher nickel content in the iron.
