Z
Really interested to see how this build goes Pete, what will the specs on the injection be (injectors, ITB size etc)?
peter mc
YES all specs will be posted
Scando
That exhaust manifold looks like a brilliant design for the limited space on a l28t. This should make one quick z Aaron I found mine tapered off quickly up in the revs with the .63 but it may have been something else restricting it on my setup. peter mc
i think you may have had some other problem as i have made 530 hp at the wheels with a 3540 .63 and 7500rpm
Roberto
Why the flattop pistons for a turbo build Peter?
luvemfast
Why the flattop pistons for a turbo build Peter? P90 head with flat tops is somewhere around 8-9:1 comp My N/A P90 runs domed pistons to get comp up to 10.5:1 Peter will be able to verify/correct me
peter mc
yer p90 head with chamber mods will have a 55cc camber so comp wont be to high it will end up with a comp off 8.5 -1 flat piston is nice as there are no sharp edges =no hot spots
Scando
i think you may have had some other problem as i have made 530 hp at the wheels with a 3540 .63 and 7500rpm Yep, I wasn't even in the ballpark of that kind of power
peter mc
did it have standard manifolds scando ,,, did it have a good head
Scando
Had a custom made steampipe manifold, not a bad design for the limited space. P90 head, standard other than slightly modified combustion chambers. Standard inlet manifold and commodore throttle body. The crossover pipe going from the turbo to the inlet of the intercooler wasn't very big in diameter so I think that may have been a restriction? Should be plenty lively enough for the new owner in a street car anyway
peter mc
sorry i have not keeped you up to date iv not been so well but iv got all the bottem end put together so hears a pic or two; off the girdle and the spacers that you need to make it all work
Z
Couple of questions here, first one will probably answer itself, the little oil filter thingo is a good move?... Yes! But if it is worth having on a high performance engine, with most likely a super fussy owner who would change the oil every 50k? I guess I'm just asking how much theses original filters are worth it, would appreciate what you reckon. Secondly with the girdle, is it necessary if you are going with the Arizona Z aluminium oil pan, which is saif to give more strength? The more the better I suppose? Pretty excited to see how this build comes out as I'm getting ready for a 28ET as well. Z
RB30X
I assume your talking about the oil pump pick up filter. Its not so much to filter dirty oil, that's what your oil filter does, it's to stop foreign objects getting into the oil system. Imagine at high rpm a valve spring breaks and bits of it fall into the sump. That screen stops the bits getting sucked up and doing more damage. luvemfast
Yes, the AZC cast aluminium sump will add to rigidity of your block. But the girdle adds rigidity to your crank, reducing crank flex. So even though they do the same thing, it's in different areas. The girdle also acts as a bit of a windage tray and crank scraper, reducing the amount of oil mist in the bottom end. Z
Cheers fellas, good information. Will have to think about picking up those bits then. I saw one of those filters recently for minor dollars, but thought nothing of it :-\
peter mc
are u talking about the oil pickup if so you will have one on your motor as they are on all Lmotors and, all motors
Z
Yes that's right Pete, alrighty then, saving! The L28 that will eventually be the turbo is in bits. The only engine (other than the original on a stand) is in the car! but I should be able to pick one up from a few guys up here in Queensland. It will be good to see how the cooling of this beast will go too...
peter mc
OK there will not be any cooling problem if u have the tune and cooling set up right there is no problem ... my turbo set up on the dyno had problem getting hot ,,
DatPilot
Very interesting intake manifold too! Looks similar to a chopped up RB intake??

peter mc
have just started to make a custom intake manifold for the L28t, and i will try to make it so the heat from the exhaust does not kill hp ,i hope to have about 12in long runners and a plenum of about 6L with a throttle of 70mm will post lots of pics of the manifold as i build
