Another photo this afternoon. Look at the back of this! So in the photo…we have the hatch on with the restored strut and fittings, the brand new lights and lenses, brand new number plate light, painted taillight panel section, and the beautifully polished stainless light surrounds which Locky was working on for ages to get spot on!

Looking at seatbelts folks…any recommendations? At this stage I (already bought) have the MSA z store retractable aircraft style seatbelts not even thinking about ADR. Anyone got any recommendations or advice on their legality and/or some recommendations for alternatives if they are not legal? * please DM me direct so this thread doesn’t turn into a seatbelt thread.

I think the place was Howard’s instruments in Melbourne. Not the best reviews for customer service on google but if you get past that the workmanship is good.

And into the painting booth for the final spray. Then a polish and denib I’m a few days time when the paint hardens. Locky at CAR has done an amazing job with the body.

It took a bit of searching on the interwebs and a bit of a call around to the places but we found a good place. Good to know I won’t have an issue with the clock rather than risking fixing the original. Even when they were new the reliability wasn’t spectacular.

Working clock…check! So Locky and I found an aviation instrument/clockmaker manufacturer and restorer in Melbourne who fit a very reliable and modern electronic internal to the existing clock gauge whilst keeping the original face. They then tested for a number of weeks and made any adjustments so it holds time like a digital wrist watch. The face lens still has to be cleaned and polished but you get the idea. Also the tach was converted for use with electronic ignition.

Original Datsun horn pad arrived at Locky’s. Not cheap but it is a good centerpiece.

I won’t be tracking or racing the car any time soon so we won’t need to take care of brake upgrades right away. Brake upgrades are fairly easy to add after completion, if required. Locky is doing a couple of things to my brakes that he did to his similar setup 240z when he raced, so the current brakes should be up to the task of cruising around, hitting a Sunday beer garden and getting the odd coffee for now.

Some more photos from Locky. The dash was put in to turn the engine over. It comes out again as we still have the gauges to clean and the clock is having modern (more reliable) internals installed by a Melbourne instrument maker. The new: vents, dash emblem, heater panel etc will go in when that comes back. Meanwhile, the new shift knob reproduction I ordered is sitting in place now on top of the short throw conversion gearbox with brass synchros…going to be nice in the change!

My final shipment of parts arrived from the states today. One of the parts ordered was a new fan blade. I have endeavored to make sure that everything on this car, that can be replaced with new shiny parts, was! Check out the difference between new and old!

Great job that man! it was tough to find that new lens, but I couldn’t have everything (and every bit of plastic) in the engine bay shiney white and new and then have an old yellowed lens.

More updates: Guard seals on; guards on; Wiper motor and bracket installed. Locky is going to sure up the gaps on the guards once again and they are good to go. Getting closer to being ready for an external paint.

Now onto the seats: So we have brand new foams and brand new black seat covers to go to the trimmers to be fitted. Now for a little TLC on the seat frames and sheet steel backing. Locky will have them sand blasted then painted. Good as new!
