  1. Ah sorry i should have checked your location before asking. I'd be happy with a base model, non turbo. Car add has been taken down so it is gone, time to move on.
  2. Last conversation with him was over sms, so his words were "i accepted an offer, purchaser intends to pick up later this week" Potentially i could call him and ask if he has paid a deposit. It was the first car i looked at properly. Plan was wait it out and see what happens on the weekend, as the seller knows i'm interested so he will let me know if it falls through. Any recommendations on who to use? of the top of your head, if not I'll do some further research. a part from that I'll keep looking as always.
  3. Almost bought a 944 on the weekend. Ultimately I hesitated as I didn't know how much the repairs that car needs would have cost - no such thing as a cheap Porsche. Over the past few days I've regretted that decision and looking back I should have taken a punt. The car now has an offer and likely be picked up on weekend. So the question is should I attempt to visit the car again and see if I can still buy it or do the right thing and move on and keep looking. I remember reading in a post that a car isn't sold till its driven away, so I am also partly wondering what others have done in similar situations?
  4. Thanks guys, though I wasn't expecting to get dumped by a car that I've yet to see or own. She's a cruel mistress. George, Happy to come down on the 16th, I'll keep checking the event page. I did come down to a car show last year - Lions Club Gannons Park, not sure if any of you attended. As for the advice, I was more worried about the engine, but I understand what is being said about the body work. Either way I won't be looking to buy a basket case, it might turn into one but as suggested in time i might have more space etc. I have been thinking about 280zx. Much like the 2+2's the color does play a part in how it looks, either way once your driving it shouldn't matter. I'll have to take a look and see what they are like. As for shelter/garage, I thought about putting up some temporary shelter and using a good car cover for it. It won't be in the street. Added some photos from the fun2drive - thanks again.
  5. Intro was well overdue. I've been loitering in the forums, enjoying all the great build threads and the cars in the sale section. I've posted a few things on other car sites and the feedback is not always positive. In contrast to here, you really feel welcomed (even without an intro). My dream cars has always been 911's, but i decided that instead of waiting till i retired that I'd look for a cheaper car. Life is short, and I'd like to have some hair left before i got a nice car. Unfortunately for me, I may have waited too long considering the upward trend of Z's prices these days. Just like house prices. I was partly waiting because i wanted to drive an older car, to confirm if I would enjoy it. Following a members advice i did a drive day with a mate at fun2drive in japan. We drove a Hakosuka (triple solex l20), r34 & r35 on some amazing roads - I'll post some photos later. I couldn't drive the 240ZG as you need to have driven 3 cars before you get to drive it. I am looking forward to my next trip back. I was definitely liked it. The sound of the Hakosuka was amazing. Even though it wasn't very powerfull the sound and the vibrations made it feel much faster than it was. It was an awesome experience. I thought that the r34/35 just had too much power and that I'd just get myself in trouble. While in Japan, a family friend told us that his 1st car was a Hakosuka. I was thinking BARN FIND! Unfortunately he was constantly getting into trouble with the police, so one day his parents scrapped the car without him knowing. Tragic waste. Of late I have been looking at 944's, Celica's r22/28's and Beetles, mainly for budget reasons. 944's the electronics worry me, Celica's are also in low numbers and Beetles are just easy to fix in theory but not much power. To add to the complications, I don't have a garage, not many tools, experience and a fairly young family. Most troubling is the misses, who has basically said "fine, get something just stop nagging me about it" - mission accomplished, sort off. My son is constantly asking me what type of cars are that he see's and if that car is a datsun? - cute but slightly worrying. A 260Z 2+2 broke down at the end of my street (not a member here i asked) and I had the kids with me so that may have planted that seed. I was partly hoping that the guy wanted to get rid off it, but he didn't. I might stop rambling now, but if anyone in Ryde (NSW) area needs a hand, I'd be happy to help out. Cheers John
  6. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-260Z-1977/SSE-AD-3399384 260z 2 seater $18k I'd add more details but about to get off the train - enjoy

  9. Out of curiosity was that with http://fun2drive.co.jp ? I'm heading to Japan in a few months and have been putting my case with the misses, seeing I can't get a Z - for now. Good luck with your search.
  10. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/meadowbank/cars-vans-utes/1975-datsun-260z-coupe/1065888465 260z 1975 - $17000 Anyone know if this is a members car? It's in my suburb and it would be nice to take a look/chat.
  11. I normally prefer the 2 seater shape but that is actually very nice. Mighty be the colour or the front black spoiler that makes it.
  12. Stumbled across this one (in WA) which is interesting - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Fat-Pizza-Cars-/261639408200?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item3ceaec8a48
  13. I don't know either, with a quick search I found the below details. http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=BCDD Boost Controlled Deceleration Device (B.C.D.D) serves to reduce HC emission emitted from the engine during coasting. It is used by some Datsuns The high manifold vacuum during coasting prevents the mixture from complete combustion because of the reduced amount of mixture per cylinder per rotation of engine, with a result that large amount of HC emission is emitted into the atmosphere. B.C.D.D. has been designed based on the idea of eliminating this objection. It operates in such a way that, when manifold vacuum exceeds a predetermined value, it provides and additional mixture of optimum mixture ratio and quantity iinto the manifold by opening the separate mixture passage in the carburetor. Complete combustion of fuel is assisted by this additional mixture, and remarkably reduces the amount of HC contained in exhaust gases. During the period from coasting to idling, the transmission produces a signal which in turn energizes the vacuum control solenoid. As this takes place, the valve is lifted off its seat, releasing the vacuum chamber to the atmosphere. The mixture control valve will then be close, returning engine speed to the predetermined idling.
  14. seems like a pretty good deal to me only $2000 - but I still can't get it passed the financial committee Hope it goes to a good home. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/prospect/cars-vans-utes/1976-datsun-260z-coupe/1058660301

  16. I was tempted to put a bid myself, glad to hear it's going into a car. I would have just used to learn something till I buy a z. Be interested to hear how it works out. Good luck.
