  1. Very nice!
  2. Haha, I almost forgot I had a thread about this car it has been so long since my last post. Although not a huge amount has happened, I've been gradually chipping away at the little jobs that needed attention. I've had a mild cam, MSD and electronic ignition fitted to the car, as well a new 2.25" exhaust system and extractors. The car now has a little bit more performance which is appreciated and I really like the awesome metallic idle and exhaust rasp on overrun. Life's too short to drive a boring sounding car I have also detailed the car a little bit. I bought a set of second hand luggage straps - I haven't actually used them in anger yet - truth be know I just think they look cool. I've also been replacing any broken or worn interior bits. I've been cleaning up the stalks with a tip I got from this forum. Using hot crayon wax to re-whiten the markings on them. Works a treat! I would like to get the correct radio for the car at some stage but after seeing how much they go for, I think I will stick with my awesome auto reverse cassette player currently in it. Over the spring I've been getting out and about with car, mainly just weekend drives in the Perth hills. I took the car to a couple of Custom Cars and Coffee meets and someone approached me wanting to do a photo shoot of it. The shoot went well. These are a couple of my favourites: The full photo shoot is here: http://www.thegaragejournal.com.au/datsun-240z/ I also managed to pick up People's Choice at this years Datsun 240Z & 260Z Register of WA Z DAY which I was stoked about.
  3. Wow, that is pretty irresponsible behaviour on the part of the workshop - you definitely did the right thing taking it home. Will be interesting to hear the excuses tomorrow...
  4. Hi Shiva, Very nice 2 seater you have there. I'm pretty sure I have seen this at Tune Right a few times. There can't be too many wine red 2 seaters with those wheels in Perth...
  5. Thanks for the offer Andy, I'll let you know. I will do some research to see if the 2+2 sway bar is the same as the 2 seater.
  6. Thanks for the clarification gilltech, I just assumed because the rear brackets are present that some of the cars came with sway bars. Ok, so is a stock 260Z rear sway bar compatible? ie. physical dimensions, bar diameter compared to front sway bar etc.
  7. Excellent, about time this beast had a write up Aaron - the car has come a long way.
  8. Actually, does that mean that NO 240Zs came with a rear bar?
  9. Hi Billy, Cracker, Yes mine has the brackets but no sway bar (it's a 71 model). As I am getting a bit seasick driving the thing, I want to try a rear bar on it.
  10. I'm chasing a stock rear sway bar for my 240Z as my car doesn't have one at the moment. Preferably in Perth, but not essential. Thanks Stephen
  11. Wow, that coupe is lovely. Thanks for sharing the pics. I've been thinking about trying to find one for a while, but they don' t come up for sale very often.
  12. I tend to use importmonster.com.au and that site gives you a basic translation of the japanese auction text. You don't necessarily have to bid through them though. Once you know what you want to bid on you can also use someone like jessestreeter.com . Jesse might save you a few dollars (pounds).
  13. They come up for sale on the Yahoo Japan auction site every so often. In fact there was a set on there yesterday but it looks like the auction has finished. Alternatively try the R31 skyline forum - http://forum.r31skylineclub.com/index.php
  14. Me too
  15. I was wondering whether anyone here was watching it. I heard it went for $154K. Do you know which country it is heading to?
  16. I built up an RB25DET powered 260Z a few years ago. DOT didn't have any issues with the power plant, but they did have issues with coilovers and any change in track from running aftermarket wheels. The issue with coilovers is the ability to lower the car below acceptable (100mm) limits. I ended up getting small tabs welded onto the coilover body to prevent the car from being lowered below 100mm. Maybe not the ideal solution, but the engineer and the inspector both approved it. I'm not sure if the rules have changed in the last ten years, but I couldn't increase track by more than 25mm. Don't DOT require you to submit an "application to modify" document before you even start? That was the process I followed. They will then tell you whether they approve (subject to engineering) or disapprove the modifications. They approved in principle my mods subject to engineering testing and sign-off of the drivetrain, brakes and coilovers.
  17. Some shots of the car in the fog this morning...
  18. I shipped a car from Coffs Harbour to Perth using Ceva last November and have no complaints about their service. Door-to-door service cost $1900 but you might be able to get a cheaper deal as my car had to get trucked from Coffs to Brisbane first. As for back loads, you may find someone doing it, but generally trucks are full heading west.
  19. Bugger! Not quite the result you were hoping for I imagine. Martin was pretty chuffed with his 12.9. Hopefully it is an easy and quick fix.
  20. Haha, yes I mentioned it to him a few days ago. Would be good to come and watch, but I doubt I'll be able to make it. Post up the results tomorrow - will be really interesting to see how both cars go.
  21. Good luck with it.
  22. Excellent. Can't wait to hear what this beast does. What are you aiming for? High 15's? Should get Martin to take his 280zx out too.
  23. I think you are right. I attempted to adjust the mixture yesterday and couldn't fix the issue. If anything, the car is now running worse. I think I'll start looking into options - checking ebay for kits, contacting ZTherapy for rebuilding etc. Thanks for your input.
  24. Thanks, I was reading about adjustment via that screw. I will give it a go today to see if I can make a difference. I'll also have a go trying out your suggestions. Thanks for the tips.
  25. Maybe. I don't know much about SUs (yet). Not sure if an incorrect float level can cause rich running. Sounds like time to start reading up about how they work.
