  1. I've been thinking about this for a set of cheap rims for supersprints and other casual motorsport. What wheels would be good to start off with? Also need to find a place in Sydney that does it. Just the other day I looked up Diamond Racing Wheels and was very surprised by the price. Lots of width and offset options, just freight would be a kick in the nuts. http://diamondracingwheels.com/challenger.html Seem popular in the states.
  2. That dash looks the goods! glad to see I'm not the only one rocking a 240K steering wheel
  3. Oh and I really have to do something about this front bumper. I realised it bore a resemblance to something.... a little unsavoury.... hmmm........
  4. Been a while since I've posted but there's been plenty of progress, but unfortunately there's not a lot of photos :-\ Anyway, a few weeks ago an old buddy called me up and recruited me to drum for a band he was putting together. I've been playing on bands for years but this is the first time I've had to cart gear around in the zed. If anyone tells you that you can't fit a 5-piece drum kit in a 2+2, tell 'em they're a dirty liar Like a glove. I also picked up that tokico illumina set and installed them. WOW! What a difference!! the car looks and feels a million times better. I haven't got any shots of the ride height at the moment but it's significantly lower. I also replaced as many of the bushes with polyurethene. I couldn't get them all but I have all the parts so it can be an ongoing project Anyway, that poor old motor has been huffing and wheezing it's way to and from work. Oh yeah, I got a new job a few months back and I've been really relying on it to get me to and from work and it's only let me down once when I discovered it wasn't making any oil pressure. Evidently, this was because there was no fuggin oil in it Anyway, the carbs have continued to play up and suffer from heat soak and when they actually do run, they use a ton of fuel. I calculated it (roughly) to be about 25L/100km Christ on a stick!, this thing is going to bleed me dry the way it's going. So then I did this last weekend The engine bay is way messier than I'd really like but at the moment the main priority is to get the motor running. Dress it up later. It's worth noting that before the engine went in the car I gave it a good freshen up with new main and big end bearings (the old ones were ok with the exception of this one: It's not too bad but I figured I may as well while it was out. On top of this I replaced the Front and rear main seals as a precaution. Better to do it on the engine stand rather than laying on my back under the car. Next up was the water pump. It sounded a little grumbly so I figured I'd throw a new one on, they're only cheap (as are all the other little things I replaced) and good thing i did. Ee gads! Luckily, my brother in-law rallys a Datsun 1600 and has a shed full of bits including a whole box full of front timing covers. So luckily I was able to pilfer a good one off him and replace that nasty looking one. Also fortunately, that was all that needed attention and it didn't cost me too much While the motor was out I tore out the AC gear. It doesn't work, and if I go to all the expense to get it re-gassed and then patch any inevitable leaks it'll still be pretty poor and will have cost a bomb. Stuff it. I'll live without it for now. So as of this afternoon it's all bolted in waiting on throttle linkage, choke cable, fuel lines and a vacuum line for the brake booster and then, fingers and toes crossed it'll fire! But it wont drive :-\ There seems to be a problem with the clutch. I used the clutch that came with the motor but it doesn't seem to engage. I can have the car in gear and it'll still roll around the garage Looks like I'm pulling the gearbox out tomorrow, not happy about it but it needs to be done. With a bit of luck it'll be something simple! Common sense is telling me that I should go and buy a new clutch and be done with it. I was being cheap before and putting it off but now I'm at the point where I don't give a stuff and just want to throw money at it till it runs. But I've got buckleys chance of picking one up tomorrow, otherwise I'll have to wait at least two three weeks for it and I just can't be without the car for that long. Oh, here's one last shot. Yes this happens from time to time, no it's not staged and yes she did hand me a beer (without me asking) just moments earlier
  5. Thanks for clarifying the difference, that'll help a bit. I have seen mossy's bars and while extremely nice, a fair bit out of my price range. I'm not looking for concourse condition just something that stops my car from looking like its had a stroke. But thanks anyway
  6. I'd like to replace the embarrassment that is my front bumper. Needs to suit 1977 260Z 2+2 (i believe there's a difference) and I'm not looking for one in perfect condition, just needs to be straight with reasonable Chrome. Also needs to be in Sydney or not too far away from Sydney. Doesn't have to have the over-rider things, I have a pair of them. Pm me if you have one laying about
  7. They've done a good job of it!.
  8. :-\ I've always had a suspicion that the angle of the tailgate was different and might make a rear spoiler not work. I wonder what type this guy used: That's one hell of a sexy bus! If you've not seen it before, there's a few more photos and a little bit of info here: http://speedhunters.com/archive/2008/10/20/car-spotlight-gt-gt-260z-2-2.aspx
  9. Alright, had a look at some photos; My 2+2 And for reference stiv's 260 coupe The angle is a little different but it's close enough. It looks as though the width of the taillight surrounds and even the hatch are more or less the same width but the rear quarters themselves seemed more pumped out. Which leads the question, are the rear axle widths different? if not, one would assume there's more room in the back for more wheel I think the best way to be sure would be to park two next to each other and run around them with a tape measure. Either that or just borrow a rear spoiler and sit it on there and have a look.
  10. Awesome, now I know (roughly) what size and offset to look for when I start chasing wheels I had a similar problem with headlights where I melted the innards of the hi/lo beam toggle switch. Theres a rocker type switch that pivots on a big brass pin (kinda looks like a short little centre-punch) the higher current I was unknowingly pulling through the switch melted the plastic pushing the brass bit further into the plastic making the rocker contacts just float around rather than make.. er.. contact. I bodgied it so I have headlights but have to hold the pass button for highbeam :-\ It works so I haven't bothered replacing it. I'm lazy.
  11. I saw briefly mentioned in an old wanted post that the rear end of a 2+2 is wider that a coupe. Is this true? Especially concerning fitting a rear spoiler? I just don't want to find out the hard way when I get around to fitting one. Thanks guys.
  12. I don't believe they need to have sequential serial numbers. Mine don't, they're not even all the same model! (two are type 52's and the third is an 09 or something) I don't think it matters. Having said that, mine aren't running yet (I'll let you know on Monday Keep in mind too that the tops are interchangeable with some other models (as long as they're all 40mm or 45mm etc) and seeing as how easily the mounts for the pin the float swings on can break, there's no guarantee that they're correct on a second hand pair.
  13. Quick question. Are you now running wheels spacers? The reason I ask is looking over your older photos prior to you running flares and they're tucked in really neatly and then later with the flares and cut arches they fill those up nicely too. What black magic be at play here? And then...
  14. Thanks for that! Seems obvious now I think of it. Am I right in assuming that the radiator for sale is an early one?
  15. Does anyone know if there's any difference in the radiators from early zeds and later ones? I'm looking to replace one in a 77 260z
  16. I've seen a few of these and they look pretty gnarly.
  17. I found some rather nice looking units from pipercross, check em out; http://www.pipercross.net/competition/products_px300.asp They also make just your average foam socks (also in double sized, as in one big oval sock per carb) but there's other local manufacturers of stuff like that. I'll look into them, price seems ok, roughly $70 per set consisting of backing plate and foam filter. Shipping might be the kick in the pants but we'll see. I know both Revolution Racegear and Fabre stock Pipercross here in Sydney but I know from past experience that RR charge like there's no tomorrow, ebay looks like the go.
  18. So my new motor is pretty much ready to drop in and once the triple dcoe's are given a clean bill of health, all that'll be left is to choose some filters. It's important to note that I do not want to run without filters. My Zed is my daily and I work in a quarry so they'll fill up with dust quicksmart. For the same reason I'd like washable filters. I've looked at K&Ns and dear lord they are expensive. I'm sure they're good but bloody hell! Ram-flo filters seem cheaper (and I'd say they're my yard stick budget-wise) but I know nothing about them. Are they a washable element? They do look kinda cool though. I've seen redline ones around too but they look a little cheap. Am I right in that observation? I know there's the foam socks (dad and I run em on our khanacross car) but they make a bit of a mess and look grubby pretty quickly. Are there any other options out there?
  19. I swung by last year and it was great! It was awesome to see Kev's Hakosuka in the metal too. So much inspiration in that car for me. I was hoping to enter in this, in both my shabby little bus and the GF's 4G63 Twin Cam Galant but we'll be in Japan that weekend :-\ We're going to miss All Japan Day too
  20. Cool! Thanks!
  21. Noted. Thanks!
  22. Can I ask a stupid noob question? Do tyre places look at you funny when you ask for stretched fit? In other words, do you need to hunt around and find someone that does it? I'm not a huge fan of hipari but it seems necessary for some rim sizes. Can I also deduct from those photos and comments that a 9.5" rim won't fit ideally withouy cutting the wheel arches? I don't really want to cut up body work if I don't have to, but if I do go down the flares path I do want to fill them out properly.
  23. Does anyone know of any Rota stockists in Sydney?

    Shocks

I spoke to Wholesale Suspension in Blacktown a few weeks back and the KYB's weren't listed in the current parts catalogue but the bloke went back through and found the catalogue before it and found part numbers in there. They are 361002 for the front and 361003 for the rear. And that's for a '77 260Z 2+2. No word on wether or not they could still get them, I was only chasing prices at the time, which, incidentally were $200 per pair (fronts same price as rears) He did also quote me on Gabriel's too and they were only $10 to $20 a pair dearer. Part numbers for those are G44869 front and G44867 rear. I ended up going with a set of adjustable Tokico Illuminas with matching springs in the end as a set came up for sale for less than the price of KYB/Gabriel shocks + king springs out here. I even looked at getting them from the states but shipping was a bit of a kick in the teeth. Installing them this weekend actually
