  1. I'm looking at going down the adjustable control are line, Has anyone had any experience with the ones from tecnotoytuning? I know that Arizona z car do them as well, and look very nice. But the price has defiantly got me thinking ? Any thoughts or feedback on either setup would be appreciated.
  2. Hey Chev, Whats your opinion on wheel and tyre combo for racing ? Looks like i have to invest in a second set of wheels, might as well get a good racing setup.
  3. Thats correct, it is an RT design. With an added notch for fuel lines.
  4. Hi All I will be purchasing the tecnoversion diff mount with the energy suspension mount, as seen here http://www.technoversions.com/DiffMountHome.html. I sent the guy an email, he has responded saying that he can fit two of them in a box for the same shipping cost. If anyone is interested ill order the 2. will be about $115 each if we split the shipping, cost will go up if i need to ship it from Melbourne, I'm not in it to make any cash. Seems pointless to ship a half empty box. This setup completely replaces the old diff mount. Let me know if anyone is keen. if not ill just get the 1. shipping to Australia is $50 so you will save $25, not huge i know, but every little bit helps. price does not include forwarding the item to another location, if your in Melbourne your welcome to come over for a beer to pick it up and talk shop for a bit.
  5. Awsome job on the build mate, i should have done that to begin with myself, but 5 years to build it was enough without adding another 2 for panel. In regards to an engineers, i have been talking to a few different ones. I went down the RB25turbo route, With an RB30 bottom end with very similar numbers in the garage. Its worth talking to a few different engineers, they all have different interpretations of the rules. As of the 1st of February this year you even need an engineers for club rego. VIC roads is closing all the holes, but gives you some outs. http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyres/CC48FC10-4D57-4F04-82E1-3BD72EF88340/0/VSI8.pdf As far as i can tell you just need an engineers to prove the car is safe for a "Street Rod" http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Registration/PermitsModificationsAndDefects/OtherPermits/ClubPermits.htm
  6. Hi all, so i have a two part question to anyone that may have this information and be able to help. I am currently interviewing engineers to see who will be more "agreeable" to certify the car in its present condition. The big issue i am having is with the size of my wheels. I know i could just put a stock set of wheels on and change them back but i would really like to have it engineered the way i want the car. The first question is simple. Does anyone know the standard wheel track for a 240z ?? Its not in either of my books and a google search has turned up minimal. I need to supply the engineer with 2 x things to get my car passed in its present state. Standard wheel track, front 1353mm and rear 1346mm. Can anyone confirm this ?? Standard wheel size, front and rear. 14x4.5 ? my engineer has assured me that the only reason i cant have big wheels is because the diff is not built to handle it... Its a good thing i put that longnose R200 LSD in, with HSV CV shafts. Now i can widen the wheel track to the width of any car that came out with a longnose R200. I need to provide him with the details of my selected car, wheel sizes and wheel track etc. I'm hoping an 300zx runs an R200 diff, of some sort ?? The 300 zx would be a perfect fit, if it runs an R200 ?? i dont think it does, but I'm hoping So does anyone know of any cars that came out with an longnose R200 with a wide wheel track and large wheels from factory ?? Thanks in advance to all that can help shed some light on this. i hope that if i can figure it out i have found a loophole for It to work for all that want to legally put large wheels on there post 1973 cars.
  7. Thanks Scando, its only a few shades darker then factory, I had painted it in the original orrange, first time painting a car and the paint and colour looked terrible, Back to the paint shop, make it darker and give me 8 litres of it !!. The body and paint arent perfect, but for a home job, im wrapped. Im looking for a good bonnent if anyone has one to off load ? otherwise ill have to go with glass. Thats the last peice of the body.
  8. Thanks Mate, I'm pretty happy with it so far. Cant wait to get it on the road !!!
  9. Well it has been a long four weeks waiting for the CV setup to be completed, No it is finally done. Very exciting times, been able to take it for a drive around the block a few times, But with no exhaust yet i feel the neighbours will get angry pretty quickly. I finished bolting up the spoiler and front bar. Front bar was a pain, Have to make up a spacer to move the bumper bracket further back. So much for it being a nice fit. Getting the spoiler to fit correctly was a pain as well, had to trim the return that goes into the wheel arch to create some more clearance for the wheels. only left me with one option to mounts it. Two screws through the top under the bumper. Still need to cut the flares to suit, Paint and mount the rear bar. Sort out the indicators and a few other little electrical things. But from tomorrow it has its temporary rego !! So off to get the exhaust, wheel alignment and hopefully engineering for the road worthy. At least after tomorrow ill be able to drive it without fear of being pulled over. Feels OK on the road. Badly needs a wheel alignment, 1st and 2ND gear disappears in about 3 seconds, Hit the rev limiter once or twice. hard to tell with no exhaust, Very Very loud. looks like ill need to speed up my shifting speed. Speedo is yet to calibrated, so speed details to come. After all the hassle of installing the new gauges the boost gauge is "sticky" and i have to tap the front to get the needle to drop down. Very annoying. Here is the latest pic, Could finally move it outside under its own power today, into the sun to get a couple more pics. Coming together nicely. Am looking forward to a club event to come along to and meet some fellow Zed fans in the flesh.
  10. I used auto cables, Issue is that cables stretch over time. Mine came back to long and was a pain to work out for adjustment. Make sure they make the cable shorter then then supplied sample, Mine was about 35-50mm longer. Not much adjustment in the hand brake now. Food For thought
  11. Hi all I am cleaning out my garage to raise some funds for my 240. I have a pair of brand new JDM slotted front rotors, Tacho and speedo in working order. A set of bendix ultimate pads to go with the rotors. This was going to be my setup before i put in the RB. Rotors and pads:$ 250 Gauges: $30 each or best offer, otherwise will end up on evilbay. Im in Doncaster Victoria for pick up if you wish or can post at purchases expence.
  12. I recently had the door trims re done also, i got him to use the original insert and replace the outer section with new vinyl. They look nice and also look semi stock. Was a good budget option while still maintaining a stock look. something on the car has to look stock.
  13. Well the car has gone to get its new CV setup, I'm sure that the setup i have opted for will never break, i poked my head in down there to see how it was going and see what had been done. Long story short there has been a couple of issues. It turns out that my diff input CV shafts dont allow for enough movement, apparently it needs a double plunger style CV. This is an issue for my diff, although it is an R200 it is a viscous diff and uses different input shafts. so now my setup will consist of the following. Custom input shafts, custom adaptors to go at the stub axle end, custom axles to in between the 2 x VU commodore GTS CV's. It should never brake, but the stub axle itself is still standard. I think if anything brakes that's what will go. Has anyone here gone to this trouble before when doing custom setup ? if so what did you spend on it ? Since the car was out of the garage i thought id take some more pics and post them, there is still ma few bits missing off the car at the moment, not long now. Should be driving it this weekend forsome test runs.
  14. I had a read through your project page and noticed you had a power FC at some stage during the build, why the change in cpu ? do you still have it or is it long gone ?
  15. I cant wait, I'm in Bangkok in the next few weeks and have organized a trip to a performance shop for RB gear. I see a new inlet plenum with fuel rail and 90mm throttle body in my future. Then ill really need a CPU. What did your CPU setup cost you ? is it a piggy back or stand alone ? I'm not sure which way to go as I'm not sure if ill need launch control in the future, i think it would be a good idea to at least have the option, but for an extra $800 I'm not sold. I cant f*#$en wait to get it on a track. so envious of all who can actually drive there cars. Where abouts are you located sco_aus ?
  16. Well tomorrow is my zeds D Day, finally going in for its cv and tail shaft set up, Hopfully have it back on saturday, then for a sneaky drive around the local back streets. I really hope it all goes well, cant take to many more hits with this project. I just want to drive the fkn thing.
  17. Well CV's have been a pain, I opted for a viscous LSD, has different input shafts to all other R200, No standard kit will work. didn't figure that out until after i had it re built. Taking it to a shop for nice new custom setup. just tell them i want to be able to buy the spares, and it has to handle 500 RWHP. see what they come up with. tail shaft will just be shortened R33. Whatare you using ? have you had any issues ? after reading on here i think i may have to get adjustable lower control arms as well. will have to see what issues i have when its on the road. Not to many i hope
  18. Nice looking car, seems to be coming together nicly from what i can see. I to am about to stuff around with engineers. Did your engineer mention anything about the size of your wheels ? My engineer has told me since my 240 was built in 73 and not 72 i can only have 15mm extra height and 25mm extra width, what year is your 240 ? did he mention anything like this to you ? It is a bit of a kick in the teeth for me as i miss out by 3 months, Seems a bit stupid to me. Maybr i need another engineer that will be more "agreeable" to what is on the car. Have you had any other issues ?
  19. I know what ou mean in terms of looms, we ended up just running to seperate looms. One for the engine and the stock loom for starter, alt etc. since i chaged all the gauges most of the "splicing" is under the dash. Thankfully my best mate is an auto elec, saved many hastles. I cant wait to drive it. is getting the new cv and tail shaft set up on monday. Then its all drive time.
  20. even with 200rwkw it would still be fun to drive, apart from intercooler, dump pipe, Pod filter, AFM z32, 3" exhaust mine is pretty much stock. Got an RB 30 sitting at a mates place, just need to go pick it up and give it to a friend to re bulid the bottom end. I definatly need a computer. have you ran the quarter mile ?
  21. Thanks for the commet on the paint work and engine bay, I painted it myself in the gagage at home. It is amazing what a jet fire heater and some extraction fans can do for a garage re spray. I will admit the bonnet does not look close to that as it is bent. The engine bay was easy after we removed everthing and only replaced what i needed Need a new one, but very happy with the rest of the car !! I had the thought of doing the inlet, Cash has ran tight and some things will have to wait. What sort of numbers are you getting from the RB25det in your Zed ? any mods or computer to speak of ?
  22. Iphone cameras only produce a certain quality, thats for sure. When i get it out on the road ill be sure to take some better pics with the DSLR. The engine bay has been done silver to frame the engine a bit better. Make it pop, so to speak. its a bit of a shock to people that dont know what is under there when they see it. It will be worth all the effort in the long run, Then begins the real modification process. starting with coil overs and adjustable lower control arms, camber plate too most likely. For the moment i just want to enjoy in a bit though. It was last registered on the 4.6.01 so will be 10 years to the day for its first legal drive. ;D
  23. There 9" on the front and 9.5" on the rear. Have to put some stock wheels and tyres for engineering but. Pain in the a@&%. It is a massive engine bay, Intercooling pipework eats a bit of it up though.
  24. Will have some better pics soon
  25. Hi All, I had spent about an hour writing an introduction, When my computer crashed and i lost my words for this thread. So now it will be the nutshell version. The current build time is 4.5 years and it has not been driven in this time. I decided to go the complete re build before i even began to modify it. The original engine was dead so i opted for a series 2 RB25det as a replacement. Fun idea at the time. With little knowledge on Zeds and Rb engines it was always going to be a challenge. And i was rite. They say good things come to those who wait, Wait i have, worked i have, Spent !! I've done lots of that. Everything on the car has been either re built, replaced or modified. Suspension is new, replaced with pedders shocks and swaybars to complement the king springs. Brakes have been done with the favoured hilux set up with rear disk brake conversion. All rubbers, bushes, ball joints, rack ends and everthing in the middle has been replaced. Way to much to write, but being a bit of a fabricator myself and my best friend the Auto elec we set to the task of putting in the RB25det. And all else that goes along with that, being Upgraded fuel system, Much easier to re fabricate the tank to take in internal pump then stuff around with surge tanks and the like. R200 viscous Diff, Custom tail shaft and CV shafts. And a few other bits and pieces, It is almost done. Will be going on the the engineer again in the next week or so once i get the car completely back together from the repaint. I look forward to meeting some fellow ZED owners at an event sometime soon.[/img]
