  1. Hey fellas The other day I was gearing up to bleed the 6 year old brake fluid out of the car and I noticed quite a bit of dirt in the MC. Seeing that kind of put a massive halt on things and has left me wondering how far I need to go to get the brakes up to scratch. Would you guys; 1. Bleed it all out and hope the dirt will actually pass through? 2. Rebuild MC, all wheel cylinders, and blow through all the brake lines? 3. Buy a late model Toyota and seek counselling?
  2. Boobies!
  3. Hi Lurch- I'm digging up old stuff here but did you end up selling all your L28ET stuff?
  4. Haha! Well... true! A friend has a B&M shifter of some sort behind his jatco equipped VL race car and I just see his pain everytime he takes it for a drive forward back forward back
  5. Makes me want to buy a 260z :'(
  6. Hey guys I'm after a 5 speed box and all the goodies to go with it... then the jatco can sail back to Japan!
  7. Sorry for the naivety- but did Australia import the 280zx 2 seater or have ppl imported them themselves? As has been said earlier- I think the 280zx will be sought after in a few years.
  8. Yes- chevy Impalas are fat and who would knock one back?
  9. Oh yeah and (hopefully) throw in a Chev- or failing that anything that isn't run by a computer, has a strong following, is reliable, and has an abundance of parts.
  10. Haha good stuff xa1973... Sounds like you really like to get into the cars and play around! I guess being a fitter/machinist helps too. I'm one aswell but have no access to much at all in my current job except loctite and rags! Yeehaa.. I can understand the yanks wanting to get their paws on the ford coupes... but c'mon don't they have enough to play with already with their awesome Chevs, dodges, plymouths, pontiacs, mustangs and not to mention easy access to L28ET engines and parts! I too have looked (very briefly) into the leyland/Rover 4.4L alloy donk- and I didn't find much! But what a nice conversion it would be.... being so light. As for the tie rod ends- your way ahead of me- I haven't looked at them yet, still got to bleed the brakes, change pads/rotors, fix some of the small gauges, find a new battery tray/clamp, and then I can get her registered and begin tracking down some interior stuff like you did.
  11. Yeah welcome mate- good to see another 280zx fan around. Is your XA a coupe or sedan? I saw a coupe the other day and thought to myself "why the H___ didn't they keep making those sexy beasts"? What a piece of machinery! ... But yes... the fat zeds have got to be the best choice out there for guys with fewer dollars to spare.
  12. Good work mate- you made it! Now you can start enjoying your ride without having to worry about breakdowns etc Lucky your old man is a mechanic... wish mine was
  13. Hey guys You've probably answered this one ten million and two times... but.. I'm thinking of a chev or Holden V8 into 280zx conversion and before consulting an engineer would like to ask a few questions: *Will the RTA allow it.. I've heard there are figures pertaining to power/weight or capacity/weight that need to be observed/retained but I'm unsure where to find this info or if it indeed applies to cars in NSW. *Has anyone done it? A few hours spent on the forums and google didn't net much in the way of information.... *Will the kits supplied by the CAstlemaine Rod Shop for the 240/260 fit up to the 280 or are they different (I have emailed but they are busy)? *According to the jagsthatrun website.. weight and balance can be well.. 'balanced' by removing/substituting engine accessories and you can theoretically end up with close to the same weight as when you began with your L28E/jatco combination. Do you guys think that's plausible or busted? * Obviously being a non-pollution '81 model it would have to be run on LPG to pass engineering...? Thanks for any help... if nothing at least I've revived the V8 engine swaps thread! ...... or do I start ducking for cover!!!
  14. Hey Razz have you considered loading the car onto a truck...? Not wanting to sound like a pussy but it's going to be 43 degrees mate!
  15. Hey mate nice car... nice colour! Probably a good idea to check the brake lines/hoses/calipers for leaks and take an extra bottle of (god-knows-what) DOT 3/4 brake fluid with you. It will be in the high 30's when you get it. Wagga is all 40's for the next week and our '72 mini is just 'loving' it So like someone else said take plenty of coolant. Hoses etc deteriorating over the years of storahe will probably be your biggest worry- my z was stored similarly and I'm now about to start replacing all the brake line components.
  16. Haha- good one Peter!
  17. Wonder what a brake pedal weighs
  18. So no one else to anybodys knowledge has attempted the 265 conversion..? I'm willing to bet some crazy kiwis have done it though!
  19. Haha! But everyone knows that Big Macs have gotten smaller over the years mate so I think you'd be getting ripped off! I'm looking to ditch the air con on my L28E as well... who needs it eh!
  20. Hi all I'm looking for information on whether Australian delivered 280zx doors can be converted to a manual window regulator. I did read that all the cars delivered had power windows but are there any other makes and models of Nissan regulators which can be fitted? I'm trying to get weight/electrics and complexity out of the car... Where it belongs! And don't say "well you shouldn't have bought a 280zx"!
  21. I guess you could get out the calculator and do a cost/benefit analysis! I reckon I could get about 150kg out of the 280zx in half an hour just using a 13mm spanner hehe! You forgot one thing- most of us Aussies could afford to lose a few kg's after christmas! I know I could. That could result in a few tenths over the quarter. I read an interesting article 'somewhere' about the influence of rotational mass (wheels, gearboxes, flywheels etc) over what I guess you could call 'static' mass (panels etc). Very complicated but I beleive the end result is that rotational mass is the weight you want to reduce first. I'm sure someone else can correct/add to that....
  22. So in the end (I'm not predicting this IS the end!) ..... All motors seem to have a consistant power/weight ratio? At some stage I was going to ask the same question that the original thread poster did... but there doesn't really seem to be any point chasing down a super light engine as even those with alloy heads/blocks are still heavy muthas!
  23. Hi guys I'm after a RHS tail light lens for my 280zx. Hope someone can help or the z can't be rego'd!
  24. Hey fellas dumb question but do any of the panels between the 240/260 interchange with the 280zx? I ask because alfa don't stock 280zx panels and I'm tossing up whether to street register my z or lightening it up and dragging it. cheers
