  1. Also sprayed up the rear bar...
  2. Not bad for a first effort I guess, but was much harder fabricating the compound shape than I thought it would be Now after all that effort I'm not sure if I like it or not Before shot is last...
  3. So does this mean you will be brave enough to come out and do a motorkhana now
  4. Not stock but may be of interest. These two came from the "Castrol Rally Manual 2", published October 1972 by Patrick Stevens Limited, London. There are a couple more B&W's of Z rallying in the book.
  5. I've heard that Kameari make a timing chain tensioner replacement that removes the need to shim the towers. A bloke in the Qld Z Car Club was telling me about them. If I remember who it was I'll let you know. [edit] do a search on "Kameari" and a few threads pop up where it's already been discussed
  6. It's a nice look on that black one. If you can find someone who you can deal with in Japan you can still get them. Bloody expensive though once shipped
  7. 2 x silver 240z's (the '71 is mostly rust colored and if I ever get round to it might end up any color :-\ )
  8. Fronts, backs and pic of hole in door... last one is a pic of what not to do. DPO put these in the doors of the 280zx
  9. There is a remote possibility, but I'm supposed to be checking for surgery at 6am Thurs morning If I get there I'll be in the yellow 280zx, can't miss it
  10. Guys, the top carpark was a busy place last week. You might want to change to either in the diagonal street parking area leading up to the top carpark, or there is another that is down below the restaurant that looked only half full.
  11. Steve, Swap you for a set already done and in black! Even got half decent speakers in them, I think :-\ I'm assuming 240z and 260z 2 door trims are the same Someone please enlighten if otherwise Mike
  12. Found my 1973 240z tucked away underneath a split level house in inner suburban Brisbane. It had been rolled in there in 1988 and still has the "World Expo'88" rego sticker on the windscreen, standard resto required.
  13. Happy to accept I misinterpreted intent and got Wed night wrong, appologies. Weeknights are difficult with work, kids, etc... Not that it matters for now because I'm off for shoulder surgery in a week or so and won't be driving for a while anyway. Sorry, won't be able to make the next one.
  14. Hope someone else turns up, I'll be there about 7:30-7:45.
  15. Anyone going? What are we doing? Mt Cootha 7:30pm or what?
  16. Dan, Do consider the 280zx as an alternative to the 260z 2+2, particularly if you want to spend less than $5k. Some very good ZX's have gone for pitifully low amounts. Yes they are the ugly sister at the moment but the 260z 2+2 used to be as well and if you delete the bumpers off ZX it starts to look remarkably Z like in my undoubtedly biased opinion Mike
  17. Congrats on the buy! Good luck with the trip back but do be aware of what CAN happen. I had a 260Z 2+2 I had been driving around Canberra for a few months with no problems. Drove it to Brisbane, delightful trip. Drove it back to Canberra - HELL ON EARTH. Basically the radiator fins disintegrated from old age and the stress of the trip. Had to nurse it through northern NSW on a hot afternoon and it took an additional 5 hours. By the time evening cooled off it was fine again and I cruised the rest of the way to Canberra. At the end of the trip the universals on the drive shaft had disintegrated as well. Mike
  18. Assuming I haven't pulled anything more off the ZX I'm a tentative yes. Mike
  19. Got it into my head to shave the bumpers. Started on the front and will do the rear next. 1st pic is the front bumper fillets: 2nd pic is front of 280zx with indicators and license plate remounted. 3rd pic is mostly completed LHS bumper fillet. 4th pic is styling direction for 280zx (dodgy paintshop chopping, ). Gets rid of a lot of the fussy body lines and angles the rear out over the stock lights. Changes to the rear end are not small and quite possibly beyond me, but given how well the front seems to be coming along... Mike
  20. As suggested your best bet is to PM and ask him. I'm pretty sure it's a full swap of the whole suspension, crossmembers and everything front and rear. Have a good close look at the pics on the site Lurch posted (if you can get past Miss Canada ) Why do you want to go 5-stud? If it's just for the availability of wheels it is not worth it, get a set of RBs! If you want better brakes, there are other much simpler ways, including going the 5-stud z31, which I believe lets you upgrade to z32 brakes.
  21. Do a search on http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php for 260DET and you should come across some posts by Richard about his conversion. I think he did S13 front and rear and it was a hell of a lot of work. You can do it with Z31 turbo components, rears being an easy swap the fronts a bit harder including lengthening of lower control arms by 25mm.
  22. Steve, I've got two pairs I eventually want to freshen up as well. So if you find any info, sources for parts etc. post up and let us know. One pair were fitted to an L28, anyone know how I identify the needles in it? Mike
  23. I remember reading somewhere (maybe hybridz) that trumpets, or at least well formed inlet rings are essential when putting aftermarket filters on. The mouth of the SU's causes a lot of turbulence which reduces airflow, whereas the stock airfilter box has well shaped inlets. I can't remember any more detail than that, it might have only related to the very high performance end but could be worth doing some searching on...
  24. Hey Steve, I'm stretching back to MGB days here but if I remember correctly, the heavier oil will give a more stable but slower responding throttle. A lighter oil can speed up responsiveness but can become unstable resulting in the mixture fluctuating/oscillating wildly. I would suggest starting at the heavier end till you've got it running well and then moving to lighter oils. If I recall, play in the butterfly shaft bushes is the major maintenance item and results in air leakage and poor mixture control. Needles and seats as mentioned, and also the float chamber needle valves may need a good clean or replacement. Gaskets on the float chamber bowls are said to leak if they become soaked in fuel, not sure about that one. Cleaned up a pair for a '66 Mini a several years ago like you're doing. Classic British car sites (ie MGB, Mini) are a great source of info for SUs. Mike
