I've got a turbo and manifold to fit my L28, however the turbo doesnt have a wastegate because it used some kind of pop-off valve, so I picked up a 1JZ Single turbo unit, but since the old one is upside down i cant really bolt it on, and worry about clearance to the intake manifold - and its F54 / N42 so too much boost will kill it very quickly. In the end I think I will need to use a custom manifold or pickup a T3/T4 exhaust manifold from the states / nz.
Apparently - You can get around an ECU by putting putting a 660+ cc injector into your cold start injector hole, and connect it to a hobbs switch so that under 3-4psi of boost it activates it. I'm not sure about getting an even mix throughout all of the cylinders however it would help with the extra petrol, and since its compressed air it hopefully the petrol will turn to mist. I will let you know if i try it.
I'm hoping that a high compression / low boost combo will give me more low down power and help the turbo spool up faster, and help with fuel economy since the engine wont need to be in boost all the time. Timing is controlled by an MSD 6-BTM because it works with the non-turbo dizzy, on the downside it does mean i cant use an aftermarket ECU to control the timing, so hopefully the MSD's boost retard function does the job and stops any pinging - and a FMIC.
I've considered using a custom intake plenum but i figured compressed air will force its way through provided its smooth enough, i've even shelved my 68mm TB and ported intake because the 280zx doesnt have much in the way of piping allowances, and any chassis mods make it difficult if you get a canary - so a megasquirt and MAP sensor with 50-55mm piping are looking better and better every day. If they can fit 50-60psi into a skinny pushbike tyre, then i'm convinced 50mm is ample for 8-10psi provided you get rid of the AFM flappy thingy.
Anyway i say go the L28ET !
