Would be interested in what people have done, in the process of upgrading my series 1 rear brake setup, because as most know they are not very good due to;

1. tiny pad size

2. caliper weighs as much as a ships anchor

3.all the stopping power of an angry field mouse

Could you do the R31 Skyline conversion? The 3 i have done work a treat. My V8 Zed (geez i'm saying that lots) pulled a neg 1.41 G on it's roadworthy brake test. Ask the Lurchous.

I'm keen on doing this too.

When I got my 280 the handbrake was loooooooossse

I tightened the bolt where the brake lines meet, despite it being tighter when I pull up and firm its still not very strong and I have to leave it in gear to be safe.

my s130 2+2 pulls up with no issues pulls up better then my old twin turbo 300zx, it comes down to what pads and what condition your calliper, rotors are in I runs bendix ultra with DBA rotors and have no issue stopping even at 180km/h on a track. try fixing whats there first before you tear it all apart even my 260z use to pull up fast with single piston callipers on the front and drums on the rear due to using good brake shoes and bendix SRT pads

Will keep you updated on progress, but so far looks like I will be changing the rotors and making a spacer

Yes, as per title we are talking about a series 1, 280zx with factory rear caliper(Australian delivered 2+2)

fellow Zers, my playing around with skyline R31 calipers just left me frustrated, but after some calculations;

350z rear disc 292 diameter, 62 hat height, (close to the 68 of the original Series 1 280zx) by 16 in thickness & vented

Rear caliper off a EA - ED falcon with built in hadbrake (similar to original) with much greater surface area.
