Gyra Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Hi folks, I'm planning on fitting a larger brake master cylinder to my 240. Probably a 1" (JB1419) patrol unit, but going to try a 280C 1"(JB1359) unit first as I got one cheap. These have side connections for the lines rather than the bottom connection on the standard 240 unit. Hence, I'll need to get new lines made up or make them myself; which doesn't look too hard to do with the right tools. Flare tool sets are reasonably cheap at the local parts shops. Does anyone know of an OK source for new steel bundy line and fittings in Melbourne? Or possibly stainless steel line (I guess this is harder to work with?) Thanks! Quote
Huw Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 with side feed careful of clearance with Clutch master and/or accelorator bracket (car on other side of the world so I can't check). I had to grind mine down fairly heavily to fit. Huw Quote
xa1973 Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Bursons should carry all youll need..use a good quality flaring kit or you will stretch the sleeve end and weaken the tube wall Quote
Gyra Posted January 2, 2011 Author Posted January 2, 2011 Thanks XA1973 - I'd forgotten about Burson's as the local shop never seems to be open! Huw - not sure what you meant by grinding down? Was that for a larger booster? Thanks! G Quote
NZeder Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 with side feed careful of clearance with Clutch master and/or accelorator bracket (car on other side of the world so I can't check). I had to grind mine down fairly heavily to fit. Huw I required a very short clutch master (to clear the trumpets/air box setup on my RB conversion) and the only one I could was a side feed. I fixed the clearance issues with a specially made braided flexi line - I will get a pic and post - but it is a tight fit with the accelerator bracket and takes some careful installation - also the flexi line must be installed before hand. I will pop out to garage and get a pic - the item is a Toyota TE27/TA22 Clutch master and is common on most DOHC Toyota's from 70's to 80's. Quote
NZeder Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 So this is my clutch MC setup. As stated it is a Toyota item that is the same bore/stroke as the stock 260z item. It just has more of the cylinder inside the car thus making it much shorter. I required this as stated above for intake clearances (and the same reason I assume Toyota used them ) anyway if you go down this path also this might give you the extra clearances for the side entry brake MC Quote
Riceburner Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Hey NZeder nice work! I have a question, would this be short enough to clear an oversized brake booser? Quote
NZeder Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Hey NZeder nice work! I have a question, would this be short enough to clear an oversized brake booser? Not sure I am not running a booster one thing I have noticed on my later 260z shell vs my old 240z (and a mates 240z which is under built 1000) is that clutch MC looks to be further away from the booster ie to make room for the later/larger booster. Nissan must have change the location when they when to the fixed accelerator bracket and 100mm PCD booster mounting vs the earlier 240z setup which was 80mm PCD and a removable accelerator bracket.
