jim Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Having trouble getting new distributor cap for 260Z - all suppliers contacted seem to supply a cap that is too small. Distributor is Hitachi, and seems 5mm wider than anything we can find.. It appears that distributor is stock standard, and vehicle only done 100+ K Quote
nizm0zed Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 could be the L20/L28ET optical dizzy? This is a non optical dizzy (the common one listed in all the parts books) This is an optical dizzy, somewhat uncommon in oz but in my opinion, a LOT better if you have an aftermarket EFI system. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted December 23, 2012 Moderators Posted December 23, 2012 I have seen some points models with a similar cap to the 280ZX electronic units; perhaps try one of those for a 280 and see if that fits. I've been thinking if a Mallory unit can be wired up to an optical dizzy you pictured to work without an ECU. Quote

I've been thinking if a Mallory unit can be wired up to an optical dizzy you pictured to work without an ECU. there are 2 types of dizzy that I have found that take the larger screw on cap. One most know as the optical distributor, used on the 82+ 280zxt in the USA. These have the disk with 360 slits on the outside and six slits closer in. These were supplied by Hitachi. The other kind is a standard Hall Effect type. This hall type again has no vacuum or mechanical advance as the ecu takes care of the advance curve etc. These hall type were supplied by Mitsubishi. Here is a pic of the 2 side by side I too am thinking of using one of these fixed advance dizzies and a Mallory box that can control the advance/retard. IE set static to 34 then have the box have 2 or 3 stage retard..1 for starting ie 24 retard for 10 at start. Then maybe 20 retard for idle to 1500 and then 12 from 1500 to 3000 then back to the fixed 34 Quote
Sirpent Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Should you require one, I have this one available. Cheers John Quote
