so today i come across a petrol mq patrol with an l28, it has a n42 head with f54 block...

did all patrols have a f54 block? and do they have flattop pistons in them??

he said if i want it i can have the whole engine for a $50... is it worth it?

cheers

My first engine was an MQ patrol engine, they were dished pistons. I had the same head/block combo too, N42 head F54 block. Came with a free hose clamp in cylinders 5 and 6!

thanks for the reply, i spose ill just buy it anyways, the is the f54 a decent block to get if you got supercharged or turbo? (due to the extra webbing etc) or does would an n42 suffice?

f54 does not have extra webing , in fact its has less so it can get water around the top of the bore  that what make it a better turbo motor , the n42 is a stronger block , but runs hotter in the top section of the bore

For $50 it's worth picking up if your going to use it.

If it's an N42 head it will definitely have dished pistons.  It was only the Patrols with P90 heads that had flat top pistons to get the compression ratio up to something reasonable with the large volume combustion chambers of the P90 head.
