red76z Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 The LS1 transplant is well under way with the Diff from the Holden commodore SS V8 Strapped To the original 260z Rear sub frame assembly. The engineer did an outstanding job to put the diff in the same place as the Zed diff and all Bolt in. No need to bolt front of diff to the car tunnel. It has its own frame work. Did not even have to cut wheel well, as he did a mod on the rear cover of the SS Diff to mount to the Z mustash Bar. I have included a few pics Hope You like them. The main reason I went this way was to keep the LS1 with the T56 gearbox 6 speed all talking the same thing with out changing ratios of original diff plus I know that this diff will take the power of the V8 all day long. Uni joint may/will be your weakest link and not sure that Cv's and uni's play happily together http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_joint due to variable output speed? Quote
red76z Posted October 14, 2012 Author Posted October 14, 2012 The cv joint is from the Holden Commodore and they seam to take the punishment dished out form the LS1 and they bolt directly to the diff. They are then grafted to the original Z half shaft which are then bolted to the original Z hub. They should do the trick. Time will tell. The weakest link is the original Z axle spline. Quote
PeterAllen Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Scott - That is a thousand times better then the configuration I have AND, it keeps the third cross-member which I have done away with AND, it also removes the Tally-Ho clearance I have between the Jurid coupling and the transmission tunnel. I see a complete rework ahead for me. Thanks for posting. RE: CVs - Referring to the outer joint where you still have the universal. I may have sent you an e-mail on this but I machined up a coupling for the Holden CV to the Datsun stub axle. Quote

Just dont launch hard with the stub axles in place. Quote
