Splash shields - Front guard/fender?

I am fitting a fibreglass front guard/fender, however, I am securing the botton edge about 50mm out from the original mounting points - incorporating a new wider sill/rocker - and I need to make a new splash shield.

 

I don't have an original guard/fender and the workshop manual doesn't show any splash shields. Is the shield attached to the guard/fender or is it a separate item which attaches to the main body?

It attaches to the body.  A small piece of rubber that stops leaves and mud getting out, so causes rust to build up behind it

The splash sheild is attached to the body via three 10mm bolts. Or it will be welded on if the car has been to a panel shop.

My confusion    I was thinking of the small rubber bit at the bottom of the steel shield.

I was confused by the web section near the rear edge of the guard but I guess that just a strengthening rib which maintains the guard profile but doesn't attach to the main body?

That section does attach by two 12mm bolts, one hidden by the door and the other under the gaurd.
