Steven Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Hi all i'm new here, my name is Steve. I recently purchased a 240z that has around 300,00kms on the clock, quite a few but i'm planning on rebuilding the motor. My car is currently being repainted and once done i'll be putting a set of triple carbs on it and better plugs and advancing the timing some plus I will be putting on wider tyres. A guy at work owns a r33 GTR VSpec that is stock except a 750hp clutch + lightened billet fly wheel, 15psi, apexi power fc, custom radiator, lightweight 17 widened wheels (gram lights or something) with semi slick tyres and fully adjustable coil overs. He recently went to Willowbank and ran 12.7 @ 111mph. He is always bragging about how fast it is so recently I have challenged him to a race around QR. He was so confident that he bet me 1k but I didn't want to take his money so I talked him down to $500. He keeps going on about how a GTR is basically a road registered race car but i'm not buying it. I'm pretty confident that I will beat him, He has even agreed to race my mate that has a 280z with basic mods if my 240 isn't ready for the next track day. My mate with the 280 is so confident we will smash him that he too wants to bet him $500. He has taken me for a ride in it to prove to me how quick it is but I still reckon i'm in with a shot. Today he said he would even wind his boost down to 8psi so I would have a chance! I'm so over him being so cocky about this and I can't wait to get my car back so I can show him who's boss. So glad to get that off my chest. Does anyone else work with idiots like me? Cheers Steven. Quote
Steven Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 Forgot to add I have changed the exhaust tips to Watanabe style over and under twins + i'm thinking of putting in 4.3:1 diff gears! Quote
Retro Z Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Hi Steven. Couldn't figure out if your first post was a joke or not, as there was a similar thread a few days ago. Anyway you'd probably have a hard chance beating your mate in his GTR. I have owned a couple myself and can say they are a fair bit quicker in a straight line than most modified Z's. With the stuff that he's got he should be running flat 12's sounds like he can't drive. I ran 12.1 at Calder Park with just a full exhaust and boost restrictor removed (15psi)... GTR's are bloody quick cars, and not much can touch them on the road or track even to this day. I remember handing it to brand new evo's/ Sti's/Hsv's on a regular basis in my 16 yr old r32 gtr. They handle good, good traction and good brakes too.. So you might want to reconsider your challenge. You might hose off a GTST/GT-T but a GTR probably not.. Unless your cars putting out a fair bit of power to the ground or your a gun driver. Quote
luvemfast Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Now, is this Stevofoxo? And your mate with the 280Z, Jason? Cos this is all too familiar Sounds like the owner of the GTR to me, fishing cos he's scared of being beaten by a dinosaur Quote
Steven Posted July 19, 2012 Author Posted July 19, 2012 Hahahah, caught you Steven! http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,11446.0.html Just my little dig in response to this! Quote
Retro Z Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I knew something was Suss, i had Dejavu when reading the first post. Quote
dat2kman Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 Well well, Matthew Halse has become a member on here! Looks like someone let the cat out of the bag, stevofoxone! Tell us Matt, you do 12.7's at Willowbank, been around the roundy roundy bits yet? QR? What times? Done Lakeside? Both are fun tracks to sort out handling issues Someone on here has a four cylinder non turbo 2 litre car that has hosed off R33 and R34 GTR's at a number of tracks around the country. Oh, and welcome to a Datsun Forum! How's the song go,,, Trollolololoo Trollololooo, loloooo! Quote

Oh, and welcome to a Datsun Forum! How's the song go,,, Trollolololoo Trollololooo, loloooo! Nope never gone around the track. I brought the GTR to do some track work as i'm bored of racing in straight lines. I know of plenty of 4cyl non turbo'd cars that only have 1 seat and no interior and slicks that will beat stock GTR's but I have never seen them beat a GTR that has the same level of modification The 12.7 was an average run, 6k launch, 1.8 second 60" and sloppier than a 90 year old ladys box gear changes all done at 14psi (dropped the boost down a tad as still stock ceramic turbos). Only had 3 runs that night not going to make excuses but it had low 12's in it. I do have a faster car in my garage if you want to race me down the 1/4 however. Quote
Gordo Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 I think you guys should just have a race already ,and get it over and done with. But I must say I love both sides of the story. I have a quick R32 GTR and track 240z, very close to call it one way or the other, depends on track selection etc. I hope this will lead to more challengers like this, it's good fun and gets everyone involved. Good luck to you guys and may the best car win. PS if I took both my cars to the track it would be the GTR buy one or two seconds. Quote
RB26DETT Posted July 19, 2012 Posted July 19, 2012 This will be interesting, I think the GTR if driven well will win. What I it with 240z/260z owners having GTRs? I love my zeds and have an Ozzy delivered GTR as a daily driver. Quote
