fellas

a few weeks ago I bought a nice 2nd-hand crane fireball for the princeley sum of $10 off a chap I trusted, I couldnt refuse...anyway know I dont quite know what to do with it  ::)

at present my zed has a NA-carbed L28 (82 model) with a new coil and the standard elec dizzy (no ECU to the motor) which is all running perfectly.

now the silly questions:

-what "exactly" would this crane ignition  little-black box do ?

-what benefits would it give to my L28

-does anyone know or understand what / where the wiring goes , or where could I score a wiring diagram ? do I need to have an ECU ?

one of the canberra guys, Simon, has this Crane fireball on his 240z -injected L28 (running aftermarket ECU) but he was also lost as how it was setup as it was done by previous owner.

$10  :o

Bargain!!!!!!!

Search the web for a wiring diagram. That will give you all the answers.

Quick search, I came up with this.

http://www.cranecams.com/uploads/instructions/90006000c.pdf

It should make it more drivable on cold start and low rpm.

Multi spark, bigger spark and rev limiter will be the biggest advantages.

I've just bought similar. But waiting for my coil and lead upgrades to suit.

Good luck with the install.

Awesome find Simon, much appreciated.

Would you think id be looking at a setup as in pic 2 or 3 ?

Having a bit of a read, this little gizmo does it all....cant wait to "attempt" to install it  ::)

Dimitri, when are you coming back to Canberra ? Found the best pizza joint on the east coast ....hint hint.

280zx dizzy is magnetic pickup isn't it? So figure 3.

With my MSD they say to run the twisted pickup wires(purple green) separate to all the other wires to stop any emf, you'll need hellically wound plug wires for the same reason. Your 240 tach may require an adaptor for it to work.

I run this exact unit.

Advantages: more power, rev limiter

Needs a tach convertor, or i just got an autometer for $60. It will blow your tacho if you leave it hooked up as stock.

Wire it up the same as a points set up basically. Its got an LED on the side that will flash if you have your pickup hooked up correctly.
