Hey guys,

So the rego on my red Z is about to run out and I wanted to put it onto club rego because I won't be taking it out much and I can't afford to pay full rego on it. How would I go about obtaining club rego?

well first you have to belong to a car club that can issue red plates, and if you are only joining for cheap rego and not be an active member, you are going to find that hard.  we have strict rules within our club to be a member, you must attend 3 meetings, and 3 events, the AGM is compulsory or you don't get your membership renewed therefore no plates.... in other words if you are joining just to get cheap rego join another club. our club does not allow hot rods or motor homes!! motor homes I here you say yep all the grey nomads are turning up to be members why,, cheap rego..

Okay I guess I didn't explain myself properly. Being a Z owner, I'd love to be part of any meetings or events concerning Z's. I've been to all of the auszcar queensland meets that I could and if becoming part of a car club means I could do more of these then hell yes. Hope that clears everything up.

yeah mate I new what you meant  ;D I am going club plates for the same reason but since the changes to the rules, our club went from just 35 members to 240 in the space of 6 months the club has now split and another club has formed with these now strict rules in place

Well fair enough I guess, being part of a club means you're also to be part of the community, it makes it more enjoyable to be around like minded people who aren't just there for the cheap rego!

I'm just new to being part of the club but I guess someone from the ZCCQ could be the best to talk to about the matter?

Zac, dont let the Southerners know, but up here in Qld it is a lot easier, and far less restrictive.

Join up with a club, Z Club Qld dot org dot au, link on their site for joining, as well as info on the club rego scheme.

Quite a few have joined, done the rego, but dont renew club m/ship the following year. At present, Qld Tpt are not following up if existing club rego scheme car owners are members or not, expect that to change.

It is cheap, aporox $200 all up for Rego, you can elect to get a "S-1xxx" plate, or, purchase a PPQ plate white on black, but must start with a letter N, O or P, .

The PPQ website has a tool to choose your combo of letters/numbers.

Limitations are in place for car usage, ie club runs, meetings, other events, and vehicle testing, best trick is, you are allowed to take car or parts, to a workshop for work to be done.

Most of the Yankee hotrodders etc will carry an old carby or dizzy in the boot, if pulled over, " Yes, orrificer, i am going to repair shop", " ok sir, on your way, oh nice car, etc".

One thing, dont be a fcukwit when driving, we realky dont want the scheme to be pulled, most all on it are like us, sensible, and aware of our old cars, and look after them.

I cant work out how the Rat Rods get away with it, but, they are engineered!

Aha!! but us southerners don't have any restrictions, we have 90 days a year to drive whenever or wherever we like, doesn't have to be club runs. ;D

Aha! Read between lines! If you carry a part or item that is to go to a shop, for "work" you sort of can!

Qld dont need to use the logbook and account for the 90 days, also cars can be quite modified.

Either way, it is a great setup to be able to use our cars on the open road, without the high cost of normal car rego.

For cars that are very rarely used, and they must be fully roadworthy, there is the UVP scheme, which i use for a car in road competition., a few times a year.

Many Tarmac rally, and Dirt rally cars run on UVP's, they get trailered to an event, ie Mt Buller Targa High Country, and the UVP is valid for period of event.
