Twin Dellorto carbs on 240z

Hi folks,

 

Excuse me if this is a stupid question, and I did do a search through the forum, but couldn't find this detail.

 

I am restoring a 240z for a road car that has round top SU carbies but can source some 40mm DHLA Dellorto Side Draught Carburettors. I realise that triples would be better but is there any point in just swapping the twin SUs for twin Dellortos??

 

Not looking for lots more HP, not building a race engine... I just want a nice sounding, classic cruiser.

You would need custom adaptor plates and then there would be  clearance issues. There's a triple manifold on ebay at the moment for $100. I've setup 2 sets of triple Dellortos but as Peter Mac would tell you the standard Su's flow pretty well. I would suggest playing with the air filter if you're after sound. My setup has a cold air box so it muffles a lot of the sound from the triples but you can still tell an audible difference.

 

Unless you're willing to put in $1000+ on building a set of triples i would stick with the Su's.
