Administrators gav240z Posted March 3, 2013 Author Administrators Posted March 3, 2013 HI Gav My mate is a specialist builder of these rotor engines and i must admit they blow me away with the power levels they can get from such a small motor. I would never tell him that of coarse. If i was ever to get an RX this would be the model. Love it Cheers Paul Thanks mate, yeah it still blows me away how much HP you can squeeze out of them. They are unreal in terms of the way they delivery power, I must say driving 1 is a very special feeling. It certainly isn't a v8 which in some ways would be an awesome swap but even standard power levels are immense. I find lots of negative comments about rotary's on the internet, but most of it is just recycled nonsense from people who have never actually owned 1. I can understand some people have had negative experiences but too many 'specialist' shops don't properly build them, hence they blow up / die etc.. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 3, 2013 Author Administrators Posted March 3, 2013 Hi Gav, Looks like things are working in the right direction for you. Bit late now, but I was wondering how long you need to own the vehicle for so you can bring it to Oz as personal property and not an import (potentially for resale). This would be the key point on wether or not you buy another car. If you had bought a replacement, you may not own it for the minimum period before moving to Oz ! Anyway - it looks good now, and you know the work done. Not like buying another and wondering what work may have been done and will it cause issues down the road. Love the paint colour. Scottz Agno is right, 12 months minimum there is also several other requirements, I've had this car for around 2.5 years so I should be fine in that regard. The 1 thing I'm not sure about is how modified the car can be, so for now I'm trying to keep it as stock as possible, but would really like to open it up in terms of breathing mods, exhaust, intercooler / retune. More info on the scheme is here: http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/imports/import_options/pis.aspx Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 3, 2013 Author Administrators Posted March 3, 2013 Here is a short walk around video I took on Saturday, really shows off the paintwork and detailing work they did on it. I'm really glad I went the full respray on it, it really does look like a new car. People over here don't tend to look after cars the same way they do in Australia so this is going to blow people's minds to see a 95 model car looking like this. Also really like the facelift of the later model FD's just works really well, as well as fixes lots of cooling issues (although I haven't strictly converted all parts to 99 spec yet I will be doing that gradually). I'm also glad I went with the original paint colour, it looked a bit bland before - however it's come up a treat and gives the car real class, not a fan of the boy racer colours you see like orange and fluro green etc.. What I like most though is looking around the car you can't really tell it's not the original paint, since all the door jambs and the like match well and no evidence of overspray. So they have done a fantastic job. Only problem now is the engine bay looks a bit tired compared to the rest of the car, but that's the next project I guess. I have the rare optional Recaro's (RZ's) to go in soon also, but first I have to engineer the car (since it was a category c write off) and get it through NCT (like road worthy test) and then she can be taxed and insured. Administrators gav240z Posted March 3, 2013 Author Administrators Posted March 3, 2013 They managed to salvage the OEM door jamb sticker. You can see I sourced some OEM rear spats at the last minute. Should help protect paint from stone chips etc.. Look Mum no more door dents!. Aftermarket windscreen seal... Rear hatch seal also aftermarket, cleaner than OEM Couple of interior shots, since they did some detailing. Rear storage bins instead of the seats lots of JDM cars have. Showing off the SSR integral GT1 wheels Girlfriend says, I'm hungry no more photos. (it was like 3pm) I like the OEM style exhaust, much nicer than those weapon of mass destruction type RPG things. Rear view mirror broken when removing for repaint. Sourcing another. Girlfriend still hungry. No front badge yet, thinking red efini badge would look ducks nuts on Silver. You can see roof was completely pulled out and smoothed nicely, no more damage here. Check out that shine. It was previously dented after some low life jumped on it. Quote
