Hello all,

I will be doing the WRX club sprint tomorrow, is anyone else attending?

If you want to come and say hello I will be in garage 24.

I have gone and put a wing on the back of my car, (pics are in another post on aero bits) so am interested in seeing what difference it makes.

cheers,

Sinisha

Now something like this, is reason for a cruise.

You meet up in the morning, then go for a nice drive that finishes at a grass roots Motorsport event.

Shame we weren't forewarned.

Good luck Sinisha. Taking any in car footage?

Will have the camera on board, hopefully some good lap times to show.

Apologies for the late announcement but wasn't sure if everything would be ready in time.

Well, had a good day at Sandown, did a PB 1:19.0 and FTD which was a surprise.

The wing was very effective, better corner speed more grip out of corners.

Bad news, GoPro camera didn't work so no footage.

cheers,

Sinisha

For those that haven't seen the monster wing, check out the pic's on the WRX site. Great pics too.

Some nice engineering on the wing, (and well done on FTD!), I'd be interested to know what difference it made, i.e. better high speed cornering or what the car was doing before it was fitted that the wing was introduced to eliminate?

Great work on the PB.  You can tell from the photos in Mooa42's link that the wing is definitely working, the rear suspension is compressed quite a bit more than the front.  Unless the photos are taken coming out of a corner and it's just squat  :)

Did the car understeer in the high speed corners or was your front splitter enough to balance it out?

In the past the car has had good low speed balance but the faster I went the more it over steered, this was most evident at Phillip Island.

The front diffuser seemed to be really effective at higher speeds so I decided to see what a proper wing would do, the wing is a copy of a Commodore VP V8 supercar.

Guys at Alfa Fibreglass made it with the mounts where I wanted them, Chris Woods made the mounting hardware to my design.

Shots of the car are all as I am coming onto the main straight and accelerating hard, so I'd say the squat was due to that, plus I run some big springs.

The only corner at Sandown where the car developed some mild understeer was over the back straight, my slowest speed was just under 150kph which is about 7kph faster than ever before.

I am looking forward to going to PI to see what a difference it will make there.

Hope that answers all your questions, happy to answer any more.

cheers,

Sinisha

The car has better traction off the corners now and I can use full throttle earlier.

One of the biggest differences are out of the first corner and the short straight after Dandenong Rd corner, through the slight bend I used to have wheel spin through the bend, now none.

Also along the main straight over the bumps the revs would flare up, now nothing.

Wider rubber would help, but with the rims I've got (17 x 8.5) the 245-40 are as wide I can go without chopping up the body and I am not prepared to do that.
