gpm Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 For Sale: 1976 260z 2+2 Automatic Complete vehicle for parts / restore / wrecking I have available a complete original 260z. This vehicle was purchased new in 1976 by our family from Blacktown Datsun, it was the Service Manager’s drive car. I grew up with this car, I learnt to drive in it, etc. It has been in my garage for about 14 years. This vehicle would require a complete restoration. I no longer have the time or space to devote to it. I can tell you the complete history of this car. The Good: It is a complete original car. It has the 5 original alloy wheels (centre caps disappeared in a carpark when it was still on the road) The engine runs. The air filter body and all engine parts are oem. Nothing under the bonnet is missing. The rear seat upholstery appears to be in reasonable condition. All numbers match (to the best of my knowledge) No knobs are missing, everything is in place. (including original radio) All keys are available, and all locks work. The original handbook is in the glovebox. All glass and indicator plastics are intact. The Bad: I believe it has traveled close to 500,000km. The engine blows smoke. When I last drove it, the transmission was not smooth. The handbrake works, however the brake fluid appears to have evaporated. The dash has cracked, as has most plastic parts, but all instruments work. Front seats, door coverings all are split / faded / cracked. The front bumper is out of shape. The bonnet nose is dented. The Ugly: Rust / Corrosion. In the chassis rails, in the rear hatch, in some panels, etc. Paintwork. Cracked, faded, perished, etc. 14 years since it was on the road, was garaged due to rust, etc and no longer able to pass roadworthy inspections. It is obviously unregistered. Sorry, but I am only interested in selling the complete car. Price $1250.00 (negotiable) Price update: $990 (neg) Location, Penrith NSW Please pm for any further advice. Quote

I no longer have the time or space to devote to it. I can tell you the complete history of this car. It is actually in better condition than mine was when I still drove it. It looks infinately restorable, given a mig welder and basic spray equiptment and patience I think the new owner should have a lot of fun. BTW does it still have the seat mechanism covers because I am doing a right hand side in fibreglass. Interestingly such a car registered in SA could have been on the road in that condition for years before being noticed by the authorities particularly if there was no visible rust and all the lights worked and the tyres were not worn. We don't have compulsory road worthy tests here but there is no problem of old cars failing mechanically through lack of testing. Richard Quote
