I just got a job in Perth so I'll be bringing my car over.

What's the deal with rego?

My car has been out of rego in NSW for over 8 years. Here, I'd need to get a "blue slip" to prove road worthiness, which is slightly more thorough than a normal inspection.

Does WA have a similiar system? I can only find info on standard inspection fees.

Any info on what might be involved would be appreciated.

Just how roadworthy does a car need to be in WA?

Thanks in advance.

You will need to take the car over the pits as its an unregistered vehicle. If it had been registered for more than a year in NSW then all you would have needed is to transfer it into the WA licencing sysytem without going through the trouble.

The simple answer is:

Bring car over > Buy a temporary movement permit at the same time buy ticket for pit inspection and book a time > take to pits > all ok get rego.

The decider is if the inspector deems the car roadworthy, if it isnt then you have to fix the items listed otherwise its smooth sailing.

There is no yearly inspection.

How roadworthy? Tidy the car up so it looks presentable, No cracks in brake hoses (although the second time round the inspector let me pass if i swear to change them immediately :)

I think with emissions, well depends on the model year and how strict and knowledgeable the inspector is ;)

Hope that helps abit.

Go in with a positive attitude and talk with the inspector. Even if he picks up a fault with something just ask him about it. You never know he might just let it slip.

Cheers

some advice from an ex (ACT) inspector.

Make sure the car is clean!!!!

Im not talking about the paint or the interior, but spend some time underneath with a rag and can of degreaser, wipe down the sump, the sway bars, the control arms, the bushes ect ect, make it look like the car is owned by an enthusiast that wants to maintain it in good condition.

Dont try to hide anything obvious, we have seen it all.

When you get a car come in that looks good underneath and you get the impression that the owner loves his car, then you know when something wears out it'll get replaced long after the inspection is over. It makes you know that your not just letting another deathtrap out on the road.

It also gives you a good chance to get to know the lesser known parts of your car.  ;)

I was planning on putting on some bushes .. so I guess a little degreaser wouldn't hurt.

The rusty bits under the car scare me a lot.

But it was going to be okay for a blueslip here in Sydney so I just hope it isn't stricter over in WA.
