Brabham Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Hi all, I have a 77 2+2 that was light blue but the front area around the radiator when looking front on has been painted black. Is this original from factory or is it supposed to be the same color as the body? I will need to repaint it so would like to know what is original. Cheers. Quote
garvice Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 There were definitely some from the factory that were painted black so that they didn't show through the grill. Not sure it was all of them, but some of the lighter colours were. Also not sure what years. Quote

1600dave Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I repainted my brother's 76 2 seater back in the mid 80's, it was very original and unmolested (but rusty even back then when it wasn't even 10 years old) and it had the radiator support painted matt black over the top of the base colour. I'm pretty confident that was the factory finish, rest of the car was the light green metallic colour. Quote

The panel around my radiator was painted matt black over the original paint, I presumed by a PO but a factory detail job makes sense Quote
Six_Shooter Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 My '73 (USDM) is painted, rather poorly IMO, around the rad opening facing the grill, in a black colour. At this point it is a flat black, which I would assume would be correct. I believe this is original, just do to wear and how the rest of that area looks as well. Quote
