Topstage
hi guys, i purchased ERP couple of minths ago, i decided to test them before i put them on my zed just to be sure. - i place just tap water on 2 sepparate plastic cups so it doesnt conduct any charge if any being passed. - drop in 1 bolts in each container, before putting them in water i scuffed with 80 grit sandpaper to expose steel incase any oil etc and wash with acetone. - hook up erp on one of them on a jump starter 12v.......... wait for 3 weeks then it showed rust on the ERP connected part!!! note: i dont even use salt water!!!! PICS Attached. so to rust proof your car, best way is bare metal it, treat it, fish oil, rust bullet, zinc spray, etc will work better than ERP. may be someone want to try test on other brand... Zeddophile
Yep. Things that rely on an electrical circuit generally don't work very well when you only hook up one half of the circuit...
sco_aus
hahaha, that would do it.
MaygZ
hahaha, that would do it. It is my understanding that these systems rely on a sacrificial anode also. As the rust appears localised to the connection, I would suggest that you have experienced a little galvanic action also. MaygZ
nat0_240_chevZ
sorry bud test not conclusive, firstly there is no connection to the other side of the cell. google electrochemical cell. ie you have the grey connected but there should be another polarity connected. into the water / electrolyte. Impressed current corrosion protection DOES require there to be a scrificial Anode in-line in the circuit. ie -ve ground is used in the ICP cell as the cathode (non rusting part) then your block of magnesium in the case should be the anode (the rusting part) impressed current corrosion protection does work, used on bridges, structures etc. basically the cell is not complete. nat0
.
Does anyone reading this actually have a sacrificial anode on their Zed without the ERP? Just wondering if an anode or maybe even multiple is worth attaching?
