Can anybody give me some advice on alternative seating for a 260z 2+2? Does front seating from any other car fit the rails? or Are there after market seats that fit? Thanks Mark.

There are some common swaps available however the general consensus seems to be that Mazda MX5 seats are very close in terms of rail dimmensions and are almost a bolt in swap.

I put some recaro's in mine with a bit of mucking about. The trick is to find seats that arn't too wide at the top as you may have slight clearance issues with the doors.

i've just put a pair of fd rx7 seats in my car, which i like the look of more htan the mx5 seats, and from what i've read they are the same rails. they are basically the same shape as the zed seats although they hold you in alot more tightly. my cousin has a dc5 type r, and while it has better seats for the money these are more than good enough, and nearly as supportive (i think the fd seats are narrower which is what i was interested in, as having high supports that are to wide does nothing for me lol)

the rails are about 3cm longer than the zed ones, but some spacers help this but the seats end up sitting up higher, and they aren't centered by 2-3cm, the only one that i really care about these issues with is the drivers side as you can see these issues quite easily due to the steering wheel, both i aim to fix this weekend.

i'm planning on doing a bit of a writeup on it, but there is already a fairly simple one on classiczcars which i found made alot more sense when the seats were infront of you, but i aim to have pics so you dont have to have the seats to see whats invovled. the best bit of these seats for a 2+2 would b that you get a lever on the inside of hte passenger seat which lets you tilt and slide the seat foward, to help out any "challenged" people you have sitting in the rear seats

gav i'd love to see the pics of the rails you did for your seats

the other seats people put in mark are any of the other normal performance type seats around. there's a write up on fto seats on classiczcars but the thought there is they are just to wide and you'd be better off with skinnier seats, but it depends how cheap you can get them for!

yea width is a problem as the Z body tapers as you go up. my mate has a wrx seat sitting in his car atm, not mounted or anything but like like you could squeeze them in.

my car i have i think they maybe pintara seats wich are absolutly comfortable and grab onto you wickedly but still have a road car look, i reckon il be getting them done in black leather when the funds pop up.

However they do sit slightly high in the car which is good in one respect but they would be better a bit lower. The seats are a tight squeeze between the tunnel and the rocker panel but this could be fixed by straightening the offset recliner lever. Seat rails are way off but the prev ownere made some Mild steel adaptor brackets which i most certainly change to nicer, better made S/steel formed and shaped, like a cradle for the seat which the rails bolt onto.

I have an aftermarket OMP race seat in my car.I have used the original 240z runners bolted to the bottom of it. As has been mentioned above you have to be careful about the width of the seat. I had to mount it off centre so that the upper part of the seat would not contact with the door. The offset is minimal and I can't tell once seated that it is off centre.

cheers

another tip if your stuck for upper room is lean the seat back a lil and becomes a really comfy dring position once you have an after market wheel etc, feels like a semi laid back f1 position, lol.

works for my seats and the position is great although i CAN sit it up without any interferance etc.
