zeds4ever Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 After the following pieces to repair a 280Z dizzy. Upper & lower bushes for housing, Stator,Vacuum advance pot, Vacuum advance internal mchnsm. The shaft is in good cndtn as are the weights ,etc. Repairing this for a fellow member who got ripped of with it. Advice on where to obtain these parts would be most appreciated. Also wondering if the vacuum advance internals from a 260Z could be used in lieu of the 280 unit. Failed to mention it is a E12-80 type which I blve came out yrs 79-83 Regards: Alan. Quote

silverz Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Alan, I had to fix my 280zx distributor in Feb/Mar 2010. I needed the contact breaker plate (bearing carrier shot) and a vacuum advance unit. Luckily another member on here - Sexual_Sushi was sourcing parts for his own distributor rebuild and very kindly included my parts in the order. I seem to recall the parts came from the US, there was some delay but it was definately worth it, the car has never run better. Maybe he can steer you in the right direction for your needs? I.m looking for a bottom bush, breaker plate and magnet for under the stator. Any ideas where I might find them? Sexual Sushi where did you source your dizzy parts from? zeds4ever Posted August 9, 2011 Author Posted August 9, 2011 G'day Mick, found out that the magnetic ring is avlble thru Nissan spares @ $178 from Japan. Stator is $25.00 these come up from melbourne. Vacuum dashpot $40 from States "Partsformynissan" no ship to Ausie tho. Dissy bushes @ "Partsgeek"abt $7.00 ea. There are two types. I got a mchne shop to make & fit bushes for fifty bucks. I'm going to make up my own version of the breaker plate using 1.6 almnm disc with four ball bearings fitted. Should work I think. At present I am waiting on a reply from a Forum member in the States to assist me buying bits n pieces & sending them over for me. Regards: Alan. Quote
Cozza Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Hi Alan I spoke to my local Nissan dealer on Monday who suggested the breaker plate was $154 and the magnet $54 were both from Japan and a minimum of 11 weeks wait, depending on if Japan had them. I got the feeling they were just trying to get rid of me. That partsgeek site is great, have you ordered from them before? I notice that when you make it throught to the checkout there is no option for international postage. Is this your idea of having a US resident being the middle man for you? I am very interested in your idea with the breaker plate. What are your plans? How do you propose to separate the breaker plate and then press it back together? Because mine was in such a bad way when I pulled it out, it is difficult to understand exactly what it's purpose is. Thanks for your help Cheers Mick Quote
zeds4ever Posted August 10, 2011 Author Posted August 10, 2011 Hi Mick, you remove the dissy spindle from the housing unit, the bottom plate that has the three pronged unit which presses the lower plate up can be disassembled by removing a small spring collar that fits snugly underneath it holding it in place. You then grind off the two small pin heads which secure the two top halves together leaving the lower side of the plate smooth. I am going to make the almnm disc/plate to take the place of the plastic unit that was originally fitted except it is going to be slightly smaller in diameter ,hence the four ball bearing supports instead of the usual three. I'm going to drill a lot of small holes in the almnm plate to lghtn it off as much as possible. Will be a bit of trial & error but I'm sure I can get it to work.Will post some pics when I get around to doing this. Might point out Mick that there is anthr post on dissys with some very good info. However when I ordered mine it turned out to be the plastic variety, not the "upgraded" metal unit. He offered me a refund but I would have had to pay for postage which would not have been worth it. I think you can get new rotors and caps from Supercheap. Cheers Quote
