PZG302 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 As the title says round 3 of the Qld prod. sports championship will be part of the Top Gear race meeting at Lakeside Sunday the 19th June. After 2 rounds I am sitting in 2nd place for the 2B pointscore. The car is getting a new exhaust fitted next Friday after throwing off my old system, luckily after the joint with the extractors, so only need a muffler and about 3 feet of pipe. I also picked up a set of Porsche Cup slicks with only about 15 laps on them, so should be up near the pointy end if it's a fine day and hopefully get into the 60's to improve on my times in Feb on 4 year old Yokis. Really looking forward to sticking it up the modern cars. Quote

The exhaust has been fitted, and a big thank-you to the boys at Fat Pipes in Kallangur who put on a great system that won't annoy the noise police. Only need to change the oil, fit the slicks and give the car a wash and we're ready to go. On a sour note the ute got cleaned up on the way to pick up the trailer. The driver's door is fucked and I am having fun getting in and out via the passenger door. Quote

PZG302 Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 System ended up being a 2.5 inch from 3 inch at the extractors with andrea bends, muffler and resonator with end out the side for 300. Very happy with the result, similar sound as before but knocked the noise down for running at Lakeside. Car just needs a wash and I'm ready to play. Quote
PZG302 Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 Well as you can see from my wanted ad, it was an eventful weekend for me at Lakeside. At least my car is in one piece and a relative easy repair, a lot luckier than others, one Lotus with most panels hit and one MX5 written off after a double somersault with one and a half pike. The day started frustratingly with the car not starting after washing the engine bay and some water gremlins atill around. i missed qualifying chasing the obvious and ended up having to change plugs as they were drowned in fuel and also flattening the battery. New plugs a jump from a battery and we were away just after everyone came in, a start from rear of grid will be entertaining. Race 1 - Starting from the back of the grid in 17th I had a fun race, 5 laps of hectic racing and getting up to 8th place outright and 2nd in class with times in the mid 62's in traffic. Race 2 - got a great start in 8th, looks like it was too good a start as I was pinged 30 seconds for jumping the start, and made up a couple of spots through the carosel. Spent three laps trying to get past a NC MX, which i did between the bus stop and the bridge and then got a couple of seconds gap pretty easily before trying to hunt down the lead pack, unfortunately 5 laps is all too quick at Lakeside. Times were down to mid 61's once I was clear of the NC Race 3 - Sent to the back of the grid to start from 15th. Got a great start and passed about 4 cars before the carosel. At the front of the pack it was cars every where as one of the leading Mx's got it wrong coming out the carosel and rolled badly. Through the dust I saw the top of the car and roll cage about 3 foot in the air before it went another 270 dgrees to land on the roof. The race was immediately red flagged, which startled another car that went into a series fish tails down the hill to hungry to kiss the fence. We had a full restart, with some cars not getting out. I had to start at the back of the pack again, but made up some places to be in second for class and looking to get onto the tail of the lead pack. As I came under the bridge the back let go at about 6500rpm in 4th, which according to my gear calculator equates to about 190-200km/h. I made an immediate right turn spinning around 90 degrees to hit the armco on the inside run to hungry taking the front left corner off the car, then proceeded to spin another 180 degrees to touch the right rear corner with the armco leaving a small tag before then running down the hill in the right direction to pluck 1st and take the exit at hungry to get back to the pit bay to look at the damage. The only thing I can put it down to was that the rears weren't quite as warm as the fronts for the first flyer. Race 4 - missed that one as I was realesed from the medical centre as they were heading out on the warm up lap. In summary, a weekend to forget witha big bill to get new panels fixed and the car up and running again. Although the next round is four weeks away, I more than likely won't be there as I have to spend two weeks in Melbourne for work, leaving me next to no time to get anything organised, as even if i get the panels there is still a fair bit of fabrication work to be done to fit up spoilers, bonnets and flair guards to fit the 18" rims. I will PM you my email address. A big thankyou to Greg and Dimitri for their offers of help. I may not be able to get the repairs done in time for the Lakeside 50th Anniversary meeting but will give it a good go to be there, even if the car won't be looking it's best. I don't know of another forum where the offers of help would be more forthcoming, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside Quote

I had a bit of a look.tonight and I got off lightly. Will hopefully start pulling the car apart tomorrow night to see what needs to be done. Quote
