tir33d Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Haven't had a good reason to post since the Lakeside event a few weeks ago, for some who may have seen me I managed to get my car off the trailer but had catastrophic brake issues. Where once I had pressure on the trailer off the trailer I had no brake pedal. Tried to bleed for over an hour but to no avail, then I watched as 4-5 of the 9 cars in the first group were thrown off for excessive noise. There is no way they would have let me run, damn I think even my VE ute would get thrown of that track. So I put the car back on the trailer and drove the 1100kms back home. Lets just say a bad weekend. Finally sorted the brakes and headed down to Wakefield with a few friends today. My previous best was a high 1.08 - basically a 1.09. Straight up I was quicker and the time dropped all day. Finished with a 1.06.0.................... HOW HAPPY AM I.............. I should have a vid which I will upload as evidence for any doubters out there. Funny thing was I let 2 different mates have a go and they both did 1.08.6 and 1.08.8. It appears I may have a bit of a weapon. Prob upload vid tomorrow night as the minister for war and finance may need a little "me" time. Quote

tir33d Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 that first lap is a 1.06.8 the end lap (when memory card was full) is the 1.06.0 Quote
sco_aus Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 That thing is bloody quick in a straight line and holds good speed through the corners there too, good stuff Quote
dat2kman Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 What was the issue with the brakes, when you say on trailer, I take it that was when you left home, what could have gone wrong? It is a shame you couldn't get a run at Lakeside, it is a nice track, and one to be treated with respect Quote
tir33d Posted June 7, 2011 Author Posted June 7, 2011 We didn't bleed the cylinder first, which was half the problem, other half of the problem was that I didn't push the pedal till it came of the trailer, had a young fella sitting in the car while bleeding and he drove it onto the trailer for me. Still also had a bit of air trapped at the inside bleeder on the new 6 spots. I am pretty proud of my little car, ultimate wolf in sheeps clothing. Most people don't look twice at it till it starts, then the respect comes with the times. Going by the Wakefield website I am quicker than the improved production cars. Quote
260DET Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Pity you missed Lakeside after coming all that way. Sound limit is 95dB which is quite high relatively but help would have been available to quieten her down anyway, had all morning to do it. Quote
tir33d Posted June 7, 2011 Author Posted June 7, 2011 The rules at every track or event I have been to is 95 dba at 30m not 3m like they were measuring. Most road cars hit 90's at top revs when your that close. I have twin 3' dump pipes at my diff, it would have taken kilos of steel wool to quieten down a car that doesn't need quietening anywhere else. When I saw the Evo get pulled in was when I made the decision that the nanny like regulators would kill my day anyway. Quote
PZG302 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 If you read the recent history of Lakeside you'll see why we have to have these restrictions. Sad, but at least we get to enjoy the track, which is a much better result than some of the tracks down south (Amaroo for one, where noise contributed). I had to try to get my system down from 102dB, and ended up breaking the exhaust just after the extractors. I wasn't pinged for noise with the same system in Feb, so the cloud cover made the difference. To keep it quiet I had to run down the main straight in 5th doing less than 4500rpm on a trailing throttle. Quote
260DET Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Sounds like something that could have been sorted because normally noise tests are only conducted when the cars are on track, noisy cars are black flagged but given another chance. The noise meter is normally located a few meters off the track near the timing tower, I have seen it in operation. If the club does another LapZ perhaps someone should be appointed to keep an eye out for problems like this, coming all that way with a car and not competing sucks. Quote
tir33d Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 Yeah it sucks to have a track that can't really be utilised. I know my car improved by at least a couple of seconds with my new exhaust system. Also found this spreadsheet on laptimes at wakefield http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=tADXtWYMAmoUeQu0VP6yGKQ Quote
sco_aus Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 1.06 is way up there. I want this Warren Luff guy to teach me to drive at Wakefield... Or Rick Bates... Quote
tir33d Posted June 8, 2011 Author Posted June 8, 2011 The Lakeside weekend was a real bad weekend for me, trailer broke out one of the suspension mounts near newcastle on the way home at 9pm. Oh and my wife who is 5 months pregnant rolled her 40tn dump truck at the mine the same day (unhurt luckily but scared the shit out of us both). So after throwing $1000 into the air for the lakeside weekend, then another $600 for new suspension in the trailer I was really happy to have a good day out. I definetly need to get my rear brakes sorted now as after looking yesterday my left rear was on metal for a while and the right rear has just run out. Going to try to get a mini 6 piston on a 330mm disk on rear. Also have to rip out my cage to get a proper full cage installed. Then maybe I might put some money away for a rebuild on the bottom end (still runs fine but getting a little smokey on the downshift - 230000kms old) Quote
DAZDA Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 That looks like MOTOR magazine's spreasheet for PCOTY (Performance Car of the Year) data - there are tabs for Winton and Phillip Is. They pay guys like Warren Luff, Rick Bates, John Boston, etc to test the cars (along with one of their journalists). So you would hope they would dominate the lap times, especially driving cars like those. 1m06s is freakin' quick, top work! How much grunt do you think your smokey old LS1 is putting out? Quote
tir33d Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Prob 290 or so kw atw. Was 260 before we changed exhaust and fuel system. Hasn't seen a dyno since intial build, all tuning done at track. Quote
260DET Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Natsoft is the place to go for weekend driver lap times eg this sprint at Wakefield http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results.cgi?29/05/2011.WAKE.S5.Y Back to Lakeside noise tests. Terms of the lease require a test at 8 meters, CAMS test is done at 30 meters. News to me. Quote
PZG302 Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Back to Lakeside noise tests. Terms of the lease require a test at 8 meters, CAMS test is done at 30 meters. News to me. Richard, been like that since Lakeside was reopened to get around complaints by residents. The CAMS requirement is basically the minimum standard for all tracks licenced to run CAMS events. If you look in the CAMS manual, rally and off road vehicles also have requirements for noise limits with a standardised testing structure. Quote
260DET Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 What I meant was I did not know that CAMS also has a 95db test but at a different distance, that's confusing. With your knowledge Matt you should be on the club's committee. Quote
tir33d Posted June 10, 2011 Author Posted June 10, 2011 I personally honestly thought it would be at 30m. Quote
