Anyone know if the wheel nuts for alloy wheels are shorter/longer than the ones for steel wheels ? My car has the standard alloy wheels, but the spare is a steel wheel. I know with Mercedes that the nuts for the steel wheels are different, so didn't want to find out the hard way. Possibly not a problem with the rear wheels, but may be a problem with the calipers on the front.

If you have the original 260 alloys, those nuts won't suit the steel wheels. You will have to carry the wheel nuts with the taper that locates on the steel rims. The 260 mag nuts are like the Cheviot Hotwire mags; the nut goes through the wheel and washer goes against it.

Exactly. Get a set of standard steel wheelnuts designed for the steel rim & keep them in a little bag with your spare wheel. If the wheelnuts for the alloy rims have a taper on the inside end then they can probably be used on the steel rim in order to get you home, but better & far safer to have parts that complement each other.
