peter t Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 Hi, All excited and ready to go for a drive and now the oil/temp guage is not working. I checked the book and it states that if this happens the voltge regulator is not working. Checked fuses and power to senders/switches and bought new oil switch but no go. Any answers will be greatly appreciated. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 22, 2011 Moderators Posted April 22, 2011 So both functions don't work and all other gauges are ok? have you tried grounding the temp wire (yellow one where the thermostat lives) by unplugging and grounding, then switch on the ignition? It should go all the way to hot if all is well. Quote
peter t Posted April 22, 2011 Author Posted April 22, 2011 I have no power at all at the oil switch and intermittent power at the temp sender. All fuses are OK and fusible links are OK. Alternator is new rebuilt but may need checking. May have to check power output of alternator tomorrow. Quote

I grounded the temp wire as you indicated and both guages go all the way with ignition switched on but drop back to zero when started after repluging the wire to temp sender. Quote
peter t Posted April 23, 2011 Author Posted April 23, 2011 Does anyone know what this is. It is located on the relay mount under bonnet. Quote
benny Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 dont mean to state the obvious peter... but im pretty sure what you've got there is a flux capacitor?? otherwise known as your external voltage regulator Quote
peter t Posted April 23, 2011 Author Posted April 23, 2011 Thanks Benny, it just didn,t look like what I am use to or what is in the book. Quote
benny Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 i dont think that its the original but it is a suitable replacement item!! If its stuffed here are some from the MSA site- http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/SEIC03C Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 23, 2011 Moderators Posted April 23, 2011 Check there is no corrosion around and in the temp sender in the thermostat housing. Its a pain to remove, but good to clean as it grounds through the housing. Can you get another oil pressure unit to test? Quote
maddos Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Hi Peter. The voltage regulator they refer to in the manual is actually internal to the gauge. Try doing a swap if you have a spare. Mine went a couple of weeks ago. Quote
peter t Posted April 23, 2011 Author Posted April 23, 2011 Think I have it sorted. Both guages go to full when earthed so that would indicate the guage is ok. Swaped guages with spare and the same thing happens. Put new oil sender in and no better. Tried to get temp sender out and it would not budge. Finally broke it off and got it out with and easyout. So much corrosion I very much doubt there was an earth. Now I have to wait untill next week for a new one. Will keep you posted on the out come when part arrives. Quote
zeds4ever Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Hey peter, how come come you have to wait till next week mate. Is it the sender your after ,if so PM me have a brand new one still in pkt. Regards : Alan. Quote
