potter260 Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Hi everyone first with the history Bought my first z a 2+2 when i was about 13 for a couple of hundred dollars. My dad went and picked it up in the dark so when we started to actually look at it was not rebuilable full of rust. So then we stipped that down made sure the engine worked first and scrapped everything that was no good. So then i started looking for another body for the engine. Found a early 260 2 seater with fresh silver paint and everything but a engine and the compliance plates but the owner assured us it could still be registered so we brang that back from Canberra on a car trailer. Me being young it then sat there for a couple of years and my license was getting closer and i needed a car so we then found a near completed 260z automatic 2 seater in Melbourne on ebay bought it up here and sold the silver one (which i regret now it was an ealy 260 number 500 i think?). Changed the gearbox and pedals to a 5spd and decided the engine wasnt the best so it sat there again. Seen a 300zx 1985 forsale and bought it drove it around for a couple of years, the 260z lay forgotten. 2 and a half years ago found a worked L28 and a close ratio gearbox from a family friend in townsville who pulled it out of his sons car to put an RB in. Found a set of tripple webbers and a manifold put the new engine in but didnt finish it again!!!! One year ago i sold it to my dad so i could get myself in a house. But now i have it back (i have to swap my 1961 morris mini with a 1400, disk brakes and fully adjustable suspension a fair swap i say). 2 weeks ago started stripping it back, pretty much finished now just little bits and pieces left to go then it will be ready to paint (end of this month). Just need to get a couple of things and then i hope it will be registered soon. A 10 year turn around from my first z til now!!! Just need a new dash and suspension dont know if i should lower it an inch or just stiffin it up at standard height i plan to race it and the wheels should i go for 17s or 15s just some of the many questions i will be looking for answers in this wonderful forum Thanks heaps Quote

luvemfast Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Welcome Potter, Seems you should be an old hand with Z's already. You've come to the right place. If you're planning on track work, there seems to be more 16" semi slicks available more than other sizes. Thats why myself and many others have them. Got some pics from over the years you've had it? Sirpent Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Hi potter and welcome. Should we call you Harry? Just kidding, great first post, love reading the history up front and yours seems like a good one. +1 karma for your first post. Cheers John Quote
luvemfast Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 You'll find good cheap 2nd hand dunlop's, bridgestone's and toyo's floating around. They use them for club racing, then sell them off. Or just buy brand new Quote
