Hi there

I've been looking for a 240Z/260Z for a while and have seen this on eBay – http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260716165542&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_1623wt_1141

Any knowledgeable guys out there want to spill the beans on the worth of a 2+2 with an RB20 transplant?

Apart from the killer rust issues, what are the main areas to focus on?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers Martin

Has that car been for sale before? It looks familiar

Looks pretty good in photo's.

Rust is always a concern, but I'd also be concerned about if it's engineered or not.

If you're happy to pay $10,500. I'd say thats the going rate since thats what he's asking.

It seems a fair price to me if the car's as good in the flesh

Thanks for that. Has been engineered and registered (tho not currently). And it was on eBay just before Christmas (starting at $10K) but attracted no bids – hence the question about if it's worth the asking price.

Hey

Ahead of you, well on the phone call front anyway. Have asked the owner all the questions someone with good mechanical knowledge does but have no proir dealings with the Z – looking for my first! Will be inspecting soon but wanted to go armed and informed to prevent myself being disappointed and broke down the track.

If you know someone that knowes Z,s try and take them with you or check out the build threads so you know what you are looking for in regard to body work. Don't forget the welders magnet. It is great in finding bog without damaging paint work. 8)

Check for rust, rust and rust. That interior is a bit tacky so you might be able to haggle the price a little over that - although most of it should be easy to remedy. Other than that check the engine condition i.e compression and any odd noises. Make sure the turbo is spooling right and not smoky.

I'd offer slightly less than 10k and see how you go. It is a 2+2 and they generally get lower prices, but it will come back to the quality of the work done on it and if the guy did most of it himself.

Mechanical stuff is easy, it's the body you should be most concerned about. I guarantee an inspection in person will probably reveal minor rust here and there and it won't be as clean and green as in the photos. If you can get it on stands and check for accident damage and chassis rail condition. Also check the battery tray area extensively along with lower rear sills.
