Hi All,

My turn signals will light up but won't blink during low revs/idle.  Any ideas on how to fix it?

I noticed when I'm running at 2k rpm upwards, my signals blink fine.

Thanks!

Check with a voltmeter how many volts you are getting when you are at idle and lower revs. The alternator should be putting out around 13.8 - 14.5 volts at idle. If your idle speed is too low, the alt may not be "excited" enough to start producing power. If at idle you are getting around 12.5 volts or lower, you are running off the battery which may be under charged also.

Thanks Zedman!  I did trickle charge my battery to full and  I still had the problem. I'll increase my idle and see how that works.  It's currently set to 600-700 rpm.  Just a quick question though - do you think there might be anything wrong with the turn signal relay or switch - is this a common Zed issue?

Hi Whoosh,

I had the same problem with my 260z. The turn flash relay has points like in a distributor. Theses wear out causing the indicators to slow down or stop when hot. You just have to replace the old unit with an electronic flasher unit. This is a straight plug-in. The old unit in my 260z was located up above the fusebox. It is the round cylinder with 2x pins. Bit of a pain to get at, but the electronic flasher unit picked up from the local auto electrician fixed the problem.

Hope this helps.

Regards

David.

David may be more on the money there; I assumed your flasher may be in good condition. Find a spare and plug it in...visit a wrecker if needed and find a 2 pin one.

Just keep driving the car at 3k RPM or more....Its way more fun anyway....Another alternative is don't take any corners but that defeats half the fun of driving a zed.

Yep mine did the same. Replaced and worked straight away.

Thanks guys!  I'll replace it this weekend.  But just the same, as per Zedman's advice, I raised the idling RPM to 900 and the flashers worked!

I was able to register my zed!  Yeeha!
