Rob280z Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 I own a 75 280Z and want to put wheels on it. I will be putting the ZG Flares as well. the wheel size I would like to go with is 17X9 front and rear and the shop told me that it will be fine with 0 offset. is this true, I am trying to get the look of Vic's Red 240Z cause it has that perfect look to it. please help and budget is my concern. I found some wheels that are cheap with deep lip to it. many thanks. Quote
Zeddophile Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 I highly doubt 0 offset with 9 inch rims will work, i think it will hit the strut with a 9 inch wide rim - I trial fitted some 16x8s which had +25 offset, and they hit pretty hard - i think I needed somewhere around a 25-30mm spacer to make them fit properly. Sulio (toecutter) is the man to speak to about fitting rims with standard suspension, but I'm pretty sure he'll have the same opinion - or alternatively, if you are less lazy than I am, have a browse in the wheel and tyre thread on this site, and you will probably be able to dig up a good answer. Administrators gav240z Posted December 13, 2006 Administrators Posted December 13, 2006 Hi Rob, welcome to the site. We don't have many 280z owners, I only know of 1 other and he owned a 280z 2+2 which he was recently trying to sell if I'm not mistaken. We have a thread here specifically about the requirements of stock suspension and ZG flares and many other combo's. Take a look here: http://www.viczcar.com/forums/about788.html It is my understanding though that the 280z suspension is a little different to 240z & early 260z suspension. In that the struts are slightly wider in diammeter. Best of luck. Quote
Toecutter Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Yer I reckon you would need about -15mm offset for a 9" rim and stock set up but as Gav said the US 280Z might have less clearance. A lot of variables, ie theres more room at the back than front too from memory but the link to the sticky explains it pretty well. Quote

In that the struts are slightly wider in diammeter that has me a little worried as mines a later 260z :S ohwell if its a problem coilovers it is lol which rims are you thinking of getting? if i was in america and the price was an issue i'd get those sportsmax ones, or the one thats been released more recently that looks like work equip rims, however i guess its kind of a different look Quote
Rob280z Posted December 14, 2006 Author Posted December 14, 2006 yes that is exactly the kind of wheel i was thinking "Sportmax" but the 17X9 all the way around might not fit so would 17X8 in front and 17X9 rear fit? Quote
zedevan Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 so you're in america? to my knownledge the only sportsmax wheels that came in 0 offset were 15X8's and in most pictures they look like they stick out a little bit while i was looking around for rims i found that "speedy wheels" make a fair few 17" rims that will fit and are cheap, like $250 a wheel, but they all had a slightly positive offset so i think you could only run the 7" ones, and normally they dont make wider ones as what cars can fit them? hence y u have to go custom... Zeddophile Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 you can fit the 9s, but you will need to run bolt on adaptors I reckon - those 16x8s I tried to fit were at the rear, and mine was a 76 260z - so probably same strut width as a 280z.... Quote
sco_aus Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 And on the spacer note if anyone is interested: http://www.justjap.com/parts_nhubs.htm I just bought 4 of these (not all for my car) and they are really good quality, bargain in my books. Quote
Toecutter Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I think the fellla wants to run ZG flares on the car so if this is the case we miss the point which is by going to coil overs with a 9 inch rim and 0 offset yes you could make it fit but it would not fill the flares and look cheesy!? Quote
