I am just starting to nut out my fuel delivery system. What i need to know is if i run a return line to the surge, tank do i need to run one from the surge tanktothe fuel tank?

and if i do dose the inlet need to be made bigger than the standard 240z tank.

what fuel pumps should i use for an rb20det. I will be modding it further down the track.

if i could get photos of peoples set ups it would be grate

Yes, because you are priming the surge tank with a low pressure pump - if there's no return to the tank, then there's NO return to the tank. This will cause significant heating of the fuel, and may prematurely cause your low pressure pump to fail.

I used the standard 240Z feed as my return and ran a new 3/8 feed with a Bosch '910' pump.

Im running a return line from a 260Z; return line goes to the surge tank but there is also another line from the surge tank to the main fuel tank. For now you can use a fuel pump from a VL Commodore; they are external and good for standard engines and plentiful!

what are you guys using to burp your tanks when converting to EFI without a carbon canister? And to reduce the pressure build up in the tank?

That would be done by the standard atmospherically-vented 240Z fuel tank (in my case).

:D

Although, I have used a Speedflow roll-over valve to prevent fuel sloshing in the vent line when cornering to the left. It allows vapour flow, but any 'sharp' positive ressure change causes it to close off. It seems to work a treat.

i have already got the larger return line that i made from a 280zx fuel line. the biggest thing i am trying to find out is do i have to make the return inlet nozzle on the tank bigger or can i get around it some how?? what have other people done regarding this? I dont want to bronze weld the tank if i dont have to

One option is using the drain plug as a pick up. I would suggest drilling and tapping the drain plug itself as the thread in the tank is tapered, and not consistent with those used on pipe fittings.

I welded an extra fitting into my tank, but my dad has gone with the drain-plug idea.

No & No

You should get a low-pressure, self priming roller-cell pump for the surge tank, and use a high-pressure roller-cell pump for the engine. The Facet pump will only flow a very small volume of fuel.

the vl pump is ok for the engine side though isnt it ?? If not some pump recommendations would be good. I will be hunting 220 to 250 rwkw down the track with other mods

Yeah Mick, the 'VL' pump will be fine for the engine side. I used a Carter low-pressure pump when I had a surge tank setup in my Z. I'm not sure what options are around these days. Have a chat to the guys at Outlaw Speed Shop in the city, or your favourite Dyno tuning mob.

Actually, you should have a chat with Johnny to see what he was using with the very setup you now have. His info will be 'newer' than mine!

yeh when it gets closer to fitting it up to the car i will prob give him a call. he must be busy he has been a bit vacant on the forums of late

I used a Facet pump as a lift pump without any issues with my setup; but when you will chasing large HP, it may not be enough.

cool that is what I was thinking of one of the valves in the vent line.
