Body Work Equipment - Compressor, Spray Gun, Dolly & Ham

Hi everyone, I've been doing some looking around for some panel beating equipment and couldn't find much in Google. So I looked in the yellow pages found a guy in Richmond, who isn't open weekends due to not much business.

 

I am looking for a few items, depending on the costs involved with buying the right gear and stuff like that.

 

The first thing I was looking at was a Hammer and Dolly. I found one a kit on Ebay but it seemed too cheap to be any good. Is there much difference between the kits you can get? Does anyone have a particular brand they recommend.

 

Likewise with spray painting equipment, does anyone have a brand of compressor to recommend? I've seen some el-cheapo's and don't want to buy something that will give me a garbage result.

 

When it comes to air compressors are all fittings universal? Let's say I have an air rachet, air gun, air drill or dremmel. Do all compressors allow for these kinds of attachments?

We have spray guns, air fittings and compressors in stock and have got hammers and dollys for customers before.

The $30- 50 kits do more harm than good (soft faces loose heads)

Get one or two hammers and a universal dolly best quality $50-100 each will last a lifetime UK brands (cant remember name)

Biggest compressor you can afford 17cfm 3hp min $1000 I have an "Airforce" resprayed 3 cars just about big enough Best to get the biggest single phase

You can run most/ all air tools die grinders to nail guns.

Size is important.

Nick thanks for the suggestions, I didn't like the idea of a cheap dolly and hammer on ebay it just seemed, well cheap and nasty.

 

Regarding the compressor I had read on a few how to websites that it was important to have a bigger compressor & although you can do the job with a cheaper lower capacity one at the end of the day an air compressor is a universal tool and I may as well spend the good money once and buy what I need.

never buy of ebay for stuff like that, unless you know of the brand...

 

my dad boght some stuff from supercheap, did more damage than repair... the pro's use stuff that costs $100-200, i got items for $80-90 and they worked great... the brand i am unsure of, as i got them though a panel beater friend of mine, that he uses, but i can find out for you if you like...

 

for the air compresor, yes fitting universal, think its 1/2 inch line or something like that...

 

for the ltrs and HP of a compressor, to little amoutn of LTR and you have to stop every few minutes for the compressor to get more air,.... to little HP same story... to much LTR and to much HP = BIG $$$, so best to speak to a pro retailer about what to buy.... paint stop in sunshine is where i went for all my gear... the gun i got i paid $240 for and could do 2pac and the lot, but i ended up seeing the exact same gun on AUS ebay for $140, with some more fittings, so look at 150+ range on ebay for a good gun....

 

as with everything, remember, YOU GET WHAT U PAY FOR....

Hey there Gavin, its Aaron again I have been doing some hunting around at work and will do another post hopefully this afternoon with some prices and availability for you, but this is just a quick update to let you know some of the brands that we deal with in the equipment you are looking for. As far as hammers and dolly?s go we dea; in brands from cheap like KC tools through to brands like T+E tools and right upto Sykes Pickavant. As far as compressors go we mainly deal in Puma and McMillan but can get almost anything, Spray guns once again we can get almost anything but mainly deal in the Star and Binks lines of spray guns.

More info to bombard you with Gav!

 

If you didn't already know, make sure you get a moisture trap for spraying, it's surprising how much moisture comes out of the air.

 

Also, if you were thinking of getting a rattle gun for undoing wheel nuts, a larger diameter hose really helps.
