Fill gearbox oil via shifter?

As the title says, can you fill the gearbox with oil via the hole for the shifter? I can't get the filler plug undone. I'm sure I've read this before, but I'd like to confirm...

There is a large plug in the side of the tranny that needs to be removed to fill the tranny.

I made a mistake in my first post - meant to say I can't get the filler plug undone. So there's no alternative?

Tried a manual rattle gun (spanner and mallet)?

Also try loctite freeze-n-release

I got it off.

 

I had tried spanner + hammer, in the end I used plenty of penetating oil, braced myself on the front of the car, and pushed with my foot/leg.

 

I googled loctite freeze-n-release, looks pretty nifty - where can you buy it? Haven't seen it at supercheap (not that I've looked I guess).

try your local bolt and bearing supplyer they should have it

Good work, that is a diesel fitters type response. If it doesn't budge, use a bigger hammer. HA..

I get it from my local repco. Has saved me where when I haven't used it I have sheared bolts off.

You will find that most of these type of bungs are tappered thread so if done up too tight are very hard to undo. A fast hard kick is the best way to break the seal as you have done just don't tighten it up too much when putting it back in as you will have the same problem next time.
