vlad Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 Hi guys, im very new to this forum. i've been looking at buying a Z for some years now and finally im very close. Im currently looking at a 240Z in Perth. looks to be in a great nick. anyway, while waiting, i thought i'd give guys in Z shop a call to get a rough quote for an A/C install. Had a chat with Lindsy, he told me that he had all the parts for the job bar the box in which the evaporator sits. he said to call another guy to find out whether he could make a box for it. so i did and we'd agreed on me calling them today to get a rough price. What do i hear today when i call him... sorry mate, i've got shit up to my neck and it will be like this for the foreseeable future. I mean i understand, everyone is busy, but i found it a bit..... uh.. dissappointing to say the least. THe question is, is there anyone esle in Victoria who can do the job? I suppose not just the A/C, but general Z work. Because by the looks of it, if i buy the car and something goes tits up, im F@#ked.... boys down at the Z shop are too busy working on racing engines to help out poor bastard with $200 job. END RANT cheers, Vlad Quote
Toecutter Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 hmmm...there are a few blokes in Vic but check in the Recommended Specialist area of the forum for more some contacts. Vlad, are you located in Victoria or WA, I assume your in Vic and the 240 your looking at is a Perth car! Cheers Sulio Quote
vlad Posted October 31, 2006 Author Posted October 31, 2006 Hi Sulio, sorry, i thought i had my location in the profile... corrected that. yeah, im in Melbourne and the car is in Perth. i had a look, but couldnt really pick out too many there. Ill try Z worx tomorrow, but thats the only other place i've heard of. cheers, Vlad Quote
luke_mcmahon85 Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 someone had a write up on an air conditioning install a little while ago, although this was using all new components, and added up to something like 2 grand....yikes. theres the zworks in mordialloc and a number of other places that might do it. for general stuff you are really best off finding a factory service manual, or get it from carfiche.com, and doing it yourself...they're really pretty simple to work on (wouldn't know about air conditioning though). Quote
vlad Posted October 31, 2006 Author Posted October 31, 2006 is that Haynes manual your are talking about, Luke? i think i should, seeing the response i got from Z shop. cheers Quote
luke_mcmahon85 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 the haynes manual is okay, but the factory nissan manual is even better http://carfiche.com/manuals020/cars/ you can download the 280z one here, which is very similar to the 240, and find the whole S30 series in the microfiche section Quote
vlad Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 thanks Luke, will def have a look at this stuff. cheers, Vlad Quote
620Z Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Welcome to the car world. If you want Aircon in your car I am tipping it will cost you over a grand to get it put in. I recommend you try the car without it for a while. But if you want all the modern stuff on an old car that doesn't already have aircon then I suspect you will be out of pocket more than a couple of hundred dollars. If you are buying the car drive it for a while before booking the Aircon because you might find cash needs to be spent on other areas before the luxuries are required. Just some advise from one who has seen a bit in his past. Good luck. Quote
vlad Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 Hi Craig, thanks for the tips. I do realise that it will cost me more, by the looks of it arounr $2k, i used $200 very liberaly. I dont really see a reason why old cars cannot have all the luxuries of modern technology. and im also hoping that the car will not need any money spent on it because its seems that the previous owner has looked after it quite well and has done a lot of restoration work. by i def understand where you are coming from. cheers, Vlad Quote
620Z Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Vlad, I am the first to agree with you that the old Zeds can be modernised and if you saw my car you would no what I am talking about. I suppose all I was trying to say was don't take anyone's word for the condition of your new car. Wait till you get it and drive it for 2 months before really knowing it's condition and what might need doing. They are old cars and I can guarantee you will always have you hand in your pocket fixing or should I say improving the car. 2K might fix or improve 10 things meaning that Aircon might be a lower priority after driving it for a while. Just a bit of a heads up from what I have seen or experianced. Enjoy the car because they are great even if a little hot in the summer. Ha. Quote
vlad Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 Speaking of seeing your car, when is the next national?! i'd love to meet all the forum people, check out their cars. cheers, Vlad Quote
620Z Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 The next nationals is at Phillip Island next Easter. But I think the NDSOC is having a Concours at Como Park in South Yarra in the next month or so. Check the site. Cheers Quote
RBZ 260 Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 geez i hope i can make it with mine by then. lot of you guys have nice s30 and cant wait to see them like greatdat ,toecutter, craigs and all the other ones. in Adelaide we got few but they mostly still under development. and the ones that are done they with a datsun club our local z club is still young and lot of us are still working hard on them. but ill be definetly be taking the road trip to melbourne for the next z national when m 260z is finished. still few months away till mines ready. at least she starts now (doesnt drive still waiting for tailshaft) and should stop ok next day or so. than interior to takle. as for a/c i got few parts but they are for 260z now has anyone got a pic of the heater box of the 240. i know they look a bit smaller just wondering how they do it.? if too much trouble stuff it. my 260z was pain in the neck and it allready had a/c but adapting it to rb20det compressor and r32 wiring was bit of an exercise and lot of swaering at it. and im the so called electronics nut. though lot of adaption was mechanicaly orientated and took a bit of nutting out.
