Scoota G

The repairs include:

replace back panel where lights are (I have another panel)

Plate floor (back RH seat has two rust holes)

Extensive bubbles around rh back window.  >:(

There are alot of places (lh back quarter, front & back windscreen + bonnet)with small amounts of bubbles (less than 50c size) don't know what would be underneath though.  ???

Let me know what you reckon- unfortunately it's unreg atm and can't drive it down to our local panel shops to see if they will attempt it  ;D

Hey- don't laugh! It could be an option! LOL

I don't know if I should sand it back to bare metal, or have it sandblasted.

Lots of methods of removing paint, chemical, sandblast, sand and scrape, if you check out my members build thread and you'll see a picture of my favourite scraper. It's my number one choice just takes time to learn how to use it.

Zanzee, I'm also in Greenbank and I'm in the middle of cutting up a '78 2+2, mostly to salvage the roof rails and windscreen frame.  There's a good chance I've got sound sections for at least some of what you need including that section under the rear windows.

What would be the chances! : ) lol

Sounds very interesting, you wouldn't happen to fit panels as well would you?

I'm no panel beater just a compulsive DIY'er.  Take a look at my build thread in the members projects section.

Buy a cheap welder and do it yourself!

Ha ha that would be a sight if ever I've seen one !  :o

I would like to end up with a 260z when I'm finished, not a VW!  ;D

Hehe, well unless you get lucky you are probably looking at paying a fair bit of $$$ to get rust removed.

I can tell you now what your options are:

- Do it yourself and then you are able to do it as much as it needs in the future. This will be the cheapest option by far, especially long term. and you will learn a valuable skill.

- Pay to get the car taken back to metal in all of the problem areas and have it properly fixed up. This will be cheaper than the next option...

- Pay to get the sections fixed cheaply and resprayed, which will cost you heaps in the long run when you have to fix it again a couple years later

I am looking for the spare wheel well for the re-build we are doing on my son's 2+2.  Would this be available on the shell you are cutting up?  We are located in Bellbowrie so are close to you.

Thanks

Alan

Sorry Alan, that would be one of the sections I need to hang onto as well!

Zanzee, on the understanding that Christmas may well come around first, I'm happy to help out.  Also depends on how much you are willing and able to have a go at yourself?  As long as you're not messing with your daily driver I'm all for just "have a go"!
